The North Carolina Republican Party has fired the shady voter registration firm owned by Mitt Romney’s paid political consultant and longtime GOP operative, Nathan Sproul. The firing came as Democrats in the state were on the brink of denouncing the Republicans’ tie to the operative’s firm.

The state GOP joins the Republican Party of Florida, which also fired Sproul’s company (who accounted for the party’s largest 2012 expenditure, some $1.3 million over the last two months) after more than 100 apparently fraudulent voter registration forms were turned over to the FL State Attorney in Palm Beach County on Monday for investigation. The BRAD BLOG first reported the emerging story in detail on Tuesday.

The firm, Strategic Allied Consulting, is the latest creation of Sproul, a longtime, high-level GOP operative whose companies — including Sproul & Associates and Lincoln Strategy Group — have been accused of destroying Democratic voter registration forms and changing information on them in election after election, in state after state, year after year. He was hired for similar operations by Bush/Cheney in ’04, by McCain/Palin in ’08 and by Mitt Romney’s campaign late last year.

When the FL GOP fired Strategic Allied on Tuesday night, they noted that the firm had been hired “at the request of” the Republican National Committee. On Wednesday, during our exclusive interview with the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Election Susan Bucher, she described some of the “similarities in the signatures and certain characteristics in the applications that were very disturbing” on registration applications collected by Sproul’s firm and turned in to her office. Among the “disturbing” defects on the forms, addresses of existing registered voters changed “to commercial buildings or addresses” and, “in some places, they were changing political parties.”

Bucher stressed her concern that voters were likely to be disenfranchised by the effort when showing up at the polls on Election Day, only to find their address has been changed, removed or moved to another precinct entirely.

The firm is still said to be operating in key battleground states like Virginia, Nevada and Colorado, where a young lady who may have been working for the contractor was caught on a disturbing viral video tape published over the weekend. The young lady, who was hired by “a third-party contractor” retained by the Colorado State Republican Party, as their Communications Director confirmed to The BRAD BLOG on Wednesday, is seen on the tape asking a potential registrant whether she would vote for Obama or Romney before she would allow her to fill out a voter registration form.

When Gregg Flynn of BlueNC reported on Sproul’s Strategic Allied Consulting in his state late last month, he reported the NC GOP had paid some $333,000 to the firm in July alone. He also discovered the company had taken steps to hide its ownership by Sproul’s firm, Sproul & Associates, shortly after first publication of his initial exposé…

Mark Binker at North Carolina’s WRAL is reporting today that NC GOP spokesman Rob Lockwood says, “The NCGOP takes any threat to the voting process very seriously. We have terminated our relationship with Strategic Allied Consultants.” The spokesman also added that the state GOP claims to have no other vendor doing similar work in the state.

According to Binker, before the NC GOP fired Strategic Allied today, Democrats were preparing to release a statement decrying their involvement with the disreputable firm of Romney’s paid political consultant, Sproul. The statement from Rep. Larry Hall was to have included:

North Carolina Republicans have spared no time or expense in their efforts to limit democracy and keep North Carolinians out of the democratic process. North Carolina is fortunate that Democrats fought against GOP efforts to pass discriminatory voter ID laws. Now Republicans are using this unethical and shady firm to try to get a leg up in this election … I am calling on the North Carolina Republican Party to denounce this group and their shameful tactics and to immediately fire this firm.

On Tuesday night, The Nation’s Lee Fang confirmed the company’s operations on behalf of Republicans in Colorado, and unearthed a photo of Sproul and his wife taken at the George W. Bush White House during a Christmas party in 2006. Moreover, a Twitter user directed us to evidence that the firm is also operating in San Diego. Earlier this year, thousands of fraudulent voter registrations were turned into the Sacramento County, GOP in a $50,000 bounty scheme for Republican-only voter registrations. We have not yet been able to tie that scheme to Sproul’s efforts.

Finally, for those who are just coming to this story, before you bother to equate Sproul’s dirty work to anything a handful of ACORN’s voter registration were accused (by ACORN!) of doing over the years, please read our original report on this matter which details how there is absolutely no comparison between those incidents and the explicit attempts to defraud the electoral system which Sproul’s firms have been accused of doing in election after election. As Republican Congressman Chris Cannon noted, when highlight just some of the differences in the organizations during a 2009 hearing on voter suppression: “The difference between ACORN and Sproul is that ACORN doesn’t throw away or change registration documents after they have been filled out.”

Though Republicans in FL and NC have now disavowed their relationships to Sproul, the GOP in VA, NV, CO and CA have not. Neither has the Republican National Committee or the Romney Campaign.

We suspect there will be still more to come on this story…

Yep, voter fraud on either side of the aisle is unacceptable period. Still can’t help but worrying about the millions of illegals Obama gave unconstitutional amnesty to along with the other 12-15 million illegal criminals. Now, if we can control the unions, ACORN, LaRaza, MoveOn.Org., Black Panthers and the many other Soros funded commie groups we just might get some semblance of a fair election. Believe me, the entire world knows who and what Obama and his corrupt regime are about, so there is absolutely NO WAY this can even be close. The polls are all skewed to give the loathed progressives a false sense of security and keep them optimistic about an Obama re-election, but decent Americans far outnumber the low-life left.

      • frivolous01

First of all, there was no ‘amnesty’, there was a decision not to deport non-violent, and non-criminal aliens. The funniest part of this is that the right is so determined to cut government spending but when the president makes a decision to prioritize the funds to focus on violent aliens then he is grant amnesty. You can’t have it both ways; you either have to increase the funding or priortize where the money is spent, period. What this even has to do with voter fraud, I have no idea.

Second, you need to take a hard look at yourself. By saying that everyone on the left is a low-life and everyone on the right is decent you do nothing but make yourself look like an ignorant bigot. There are good and bad people on both sides. There is no ‘evil’ right or ‘low-life’ left. There are only Americans that have different opinions and different priorities. Unless you want to live in a dictatorship then you need to realize that it’s ok for everyone to have their own opinions.

What do you mean when you say control the unions and Acorn? To start with unions are ran by their members and I know that because I was a union member for over 20 years and that is how my union worked. We made the decisions on what party we supported and when there was a tie as to which party to donate our money to, the money went 50/50 to both parties and we did better work than non union workers did. Acorn controlled itself, they turned in the people that worked for them that was doctoring voter forms and other forms that were breaking the law to the law not a whistle blower. Unlike so many people working for the Republicans today that are committing voter fraud that had to be turned in by whistle blowers since the Republican party wouldn’t do it. I don’t what groups Soros supports but that is he ‘s right to do under Citizens United law that the Supreme Court says is legal because corporations are people. How come you aren’t wanting to control the Koch brothers and their so called charity groups that donate millions to Super pacs and call that charity and don’t revel who their donors are. I wonder every time I hear about the Koch brothers and Carl Roves charity groups making a donation to a super pacs how much of that money comes from overseas( which means it is illegal money) and is being used to influence this election, There has been no amnesty given to illegals especially the criminal ones. President Obama has had more illegals deported in his three year nine months time in office than Bush 2 deported in eight years. What has made this Country great is our right to disagree with each other when it comes to politics. If you loath a person because they don’t agree with your political believes then you need to call yourself a Communist instead of Soros because that is they way they work. Instead of believing everything Fox News and Rush Limbaugh says why don’t you do your own research on things like amnesty and deportation, Acorn, and unions and so on like I do then do your posting. It is surprising since you are a woman you would support any Republican especially Romney and Ryan.

Please let me give you another Republican view, Kay.

I am a registered Republican – have been since I got the right to vote. I am a moderate Republican. I believe in fiscal responsibility, both in my personal life and for my country. But I also believe in social responsibility.

My party has moved farther and farther to the right on many issues. It seems as if the extremists are in charge and moderates have become an endangered species.

I find that I am becoming one of the scariest people my party has: a Republican moderate who is considering voting Democrat this time around.

I’m wondering: how many other Republicans have similar feelings? How many other Republican votes will be lost because of extremism?

When will my party get the message and begin to move away from their extremist views?

        Kay F. Ferguson:
This article is about Romney being tied to a voter registration firm working on his behalf that has created fraudulent registrations for Romney.

National memo article author Brad Friedman states:

        No you don’t!

Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels said it best:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” (like Fox FAUX news, Limbaugh, Beck and Rove believe)

        or as Adolph Hitler stated:

Since when has amnesty become unconstitutiona? How many of our ancestors can be said to have got into this country entirely legally? The facts are that the group was hired by the Florida RNC with the knowledge before hand that their tactics were, at best, questionable. Voter fraud is just another republican buzzword for suppression.

Dom? They got caught, they’re guilty as Hell, and now they’re trying to cover up their own culpability by throwing the firms under the judicial bus.

The Republican party has, for *decades*, been railing about voter fraud! There is no way in HELL they were unaware of these criminal activities.

Bottom Line–They smelt it and dealt it. I further suggest the various states drop those nonsensical Voter ID laws as they plainly do nothing to prevent voter fraud.

Daniel you know as well as I do that the Voter ID Laws weren’t enacted to stop voter fraud but to stop people from voting especially the people with a D or I next to their name in the polling books. We also know that millions of taxpayers dollars have been spent to purge voting list of people that has that D or I next to their name in Republican controlled states so they can make sure that the only candidates elected have a R next to their name because in their purging they sure didn’t catch any one committing voter fraud or so few that were the amount of money spent to catch them averaged out to about a million or more in tax money that could have been spent on education and health care instead.

When you pay people by the number of voters they register, some of the unscrupulous people will resort to fraud. There’s always a certain percentage who will “cheat”. Perhaps this is an issue that the parties could agree to clean up. Naaaaaaah.

This country is not immoral. Greedy fascist politicians are. The USA has its problems for sure. Anyone who believe s that the “ends justifies the means” is immoral. This mindset causes our national problems.

And this article is about Mitt Romney’s paid political consultant and longtime GOP operative, Nathan “ends justifies the means” ” Sproul…

As the comments here clearly point out, both parties and their “operatives” are very capable of fraud. Unless, and until, they’re thoroughly investigated and the guilty parties are vigorously prosecuted, it’ll continue.

This just goes to show how desperate the Repubs are to get the presidency. They want the ultimate power that would allow them to follow through with their cruel and uncaring plans to basically destroy the well-being of people who are just trying to survive, they can taste it; so they’re willing to lie and cheat to acheive that goal. Their problem is they don’t seem to know how to play fair and present that “Christian” character they so boldly tout; instead they are showing all the world just how mean-spirited, selfish, and greedy many of them are. Why can’t this be a clean fight with them allowing people to register for whatever party they choose? Fear of losing no doubt.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PMVMZMDLRQL3TRK5RNOHJVZPHU stoptheinsanity

For many decades, Republicans have engaged in voter fraud and suppression of the voting rights of minorities and Democratic voters. They have engaged in surreptitious and illegal activities all in the effort to win elections. Their modus operandi is to win at any and all costs. Republicans are the first ones to scream “bloody murder” and accuse the other side of engaging in voter fraud while, at the same time, that is exactly what they are doing. I am calling on Virginia, Nevada, Colorado and California to disavow, disassociate and FIRE Sproul and his company, Strategic Allied Consulting. So many people have fought and died for the right to vote. Republicans couldn’t care less about that. All they are concerned about is acquiring political power so that they can enact their extreme right-wing agenda. Republicans want to totally erradicate Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. They want to take away all of the safety nets that many Americans rely on to survive. Republicans love to call these things “entitlements” so that people will believe their lies and look at those things as handouts. Many people have worked so many long years and contributed to the system, so it is something they paid into and are owed. I have faith in the American people and believe that they will send Romney, Ryan and the whole Republican party packing. Republicans want to believe that we are dumb and stupid. They want to take away the little that we do have but they will continue to eat at the hog trough of government- provided salaries, lucrative pension plans, lavish benefits as well as lobbyist money and goodies.

When either party is caught in any of these fraud, suppressin schemes they should forfit the election

    • daniel bostdorf

Really sorry—I like that sentiment…but…that can’t happen under Constitutional and State Laws.

All Americans have a right to vote, and the campaigns have the right to be represented on the ballot when citizens signatures and/or a primary election allows those campaigns to move forward with their candidates.

HOWEVER…campaigns should be prosecuted for any crimes committed by them directly or by their authorized legal agents like Nathan Sproul.

I think the legal term “knowingly and willingly” comes to mind if GOP Federal or state organizations engage in voter suppression…

Proof of voter suppression essentially disqualifies campaigns in the voters minds, unless of course, like some who post here like Kay and ALLAMERICAN, obozomustgo etc…blah blah fascists APOLOGIZE for illegal actions will still vote for them anyway..

      Remember according to Brad Freidman:

“Nathan Sproul….The firm, Strategic Allied Consulting, is the latest creation of Sproul, a longtime, high-level GOP operative whose companies — including Sproul & Associates and Lincoln Strategy Group — have been accused of destroying Democratic voter registration forms and changing information on them in election after election, in state after state, year after year……..On Tuesday night, The Nation’s Lee Fang confirmed the company’s operations on behalf of Republicans in Colorado, and unearthed a photo of Sproul and his wife taken at the George W. Obama is going to win.
      Debates or no debates.

The fascists leaders in the Republican “party,” like John “bonehead” Beohner and Mitch McConnel should be tried for treason. The do nothing House has intentionally placed fascists TEAPARTY nazis brown shirt policies ahead of the American people’s needs.

      Remember Romneys 47% speech….????

Voter registrator fraud is the work of paid operatives.

The “big boys” fascists, unfortunately, like Rove, John “bonehead” Beohner and Mitch McConnel, and the Koch Brothers, are untouchable.

All we can do is discredit them and their sychophant print and broadcast media fascists like Foxnews, Limbaugh, Beck and others…by re-electing Obama….and telling these fascist to go the frig away…

      Sychophant: a servile self-seeking flatterer….

Jeesh….didn’t this planet, our nation, learn anything from Hitler, and Joseph Goebbels and Joseph McCarthy and Nixon, and Reagan and all the Bushes???

      Mission accomplished.

Yeah… Obama has doneit the real way…and needs 4 more years to undue the mess.
