Democrats Hit Back At FBI Director

Comey

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M./WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump pressed his attack on Democratic rival Hillary Clinton‘s integrity as she struggled to get past a new firestorm over her emails with just eight days to go until Election Day.

Friday’s announcement by FBI Director James Comey that his agency is investigating more emails as part of a probe into Clinton‘s use of a private email server gave new hope to Trump that he can make an improbable comeback and win on Nov. 8.

The Clinton campaign and its supporters in the Democratic Party furiously attacked Comey for releasing information that raised questions but provided no details so close to the election. Some party leaders accused the FBI of a double standard, saying the agency was concealing damaging information about the Trump campaign.

The FBI spent a year investigating Clinton‘s use of a private email server, instead of government systems, while she was secretary of state from 2009 to 2013. Comey concluded in July that while Clinton and her staff had been “extremely careless” in handling classified information there were no grounds for any charges.

But the issue resurfaced unexpectedly on Friday when Comey sent a brief letter to members of Congress to tell them the agency was looking at new emails.

He said “we don’t know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails,” which were found during an unrelated probe into the estranged husband of a top Clinton aide. But Trump seized on the news to charge that Clinton represents a corrupt political system.

“When we win on Nov. 8 we are going to Washington D.C. and we are going drain the swamp,” he said on Sunday night at a rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Hillary Clinton is not the victim. You, the American people are the victims of this corrupt system.”

U.S. Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic leader in the Senate, accused Comey on Sunday of “a disturbing double standard for the treatment of sensitive information, with what appears to be a clear intent to aid one political party over another.”

He said, without providing evidence, that the FBI was keeping “explosive information” under wraps about ties between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

Democratic Representative Elijah Cummings hammered this accusation on Monday, urging the FBI to release information on Trump and his advisers’ dealings with Russia.

“Members of Congress including myself, have asked for months for the FBI to provide us with information as to whether Mr, Trump, Mr Manafort, other associates and the Russian government have any connection with each other,” Cummings told CNN, referring to a former senior Trump campaign official, Paul Manafort.

An FBI spokeswoman said late on Sunday: “When we receive the letter it will be handled through our usual process in responding to members of Congress,” referring to Reid’s accusation.

The U.S. government has accused Russia of a campaign of cyber attacks targeting the Democratic Party that has led to the release of thousands of illegally obtained emails, revealing the sometimes unflattering inner workings of the party. The Kremlin has denied this. Trump has declined to implicate Russia in any wrongdoing.

FBI WARRANT

Democrats have demanded that Comey and the FBI rapidly work to make public what they know about the new email trove. A source familiar with the matter said on Sunday that the FBI had secured a warrant to examine the emails.

Daily tracking polls should reflect soon whether the controversy is having an impact on the race. Early voting means that millions of Americans have already cast their ballots.

Trump had already narrowed Clinton‘s lead in national opinion polls and gone into the lead in a small number of the battleground states where the election is likely to be decided.

The latest emails were discovered as part of a separate probe of former Democratic U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of Huma Abedin, who is Clinton‘s closest aide and confidante, sources close to the FBI investigation have said.

The FBI is investigating illicit text messages Weiner is alleged to have sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina.

The Wall Street Journal reported that federal agents are preparing to spend weeks examining about 650,000 emails contained on Weiner’s laptop for possible links to Clinton‘s email use.

If Clinton wins the election, the controversy could cast a cloud over her White House transition.

Trump said the new email cache could represent a “motherlode” of emails.

Cummings said on Monday that the FBI’s vague statement on new emails related to the Clintoninvestigation made it impossible for Clinton to defend herself and “basically gave Donald Trump a softball to hit over the fence.”

On Sunday, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign manager Robby Mook questioned the FBI head’s decision to notify Congress of the email review before he even knew whether they were significant or relevant.

Comey was appointed FBI director by Democratic President Barack Obama in 2013.

Cummings, the Democratic representative, said Comey was under intense pressure and scrutiny from Republicans in Congress after his conclusion in July that Clinton had not violated the law, so he released the new information to stave off any accusations from Republicans that he had withheld information.

The Chicago Tribune, the nation’s 6th largest newspaper, has called for Crooked Hillary to step down and withdraw from the race. The end is near for her.

So why has the Trib not endorsed Trump? Only ONE major paper in the nation has endorsed him, while virtually all the rest with circulation of over 100k daily have endorsed Clinton. Doesn’t look like Trump is much of anybody’s favorite.

Released from the White House today: Presidential spokesman, Josh Earnest: “Obama believes Comey is a man of integrity and doesn’t believe he is trying to influence the election”.

Question: How will Clinton apologists and sycophants now respond to this statement? Will they accuse Obama of being a Republican? Will they also accuse him of colluding with WikiLeaks?

The end is near for Crooked Hillary Clinton.

The DESPERATION coming off you as you try to pretend there’s anything in this non-scandal that links it to Hillary is incredible. The guy you’re supporting is facing child molestation charges, btw.

      You gonna lose!

Absolutely agree that Comey has handled himself poorly. Starting with the point at which he decided to give a speech about the FBI’s investigation, which included his personal opinions; and then agreeing to turn over the Agency’s notes to a Congressional committee that can be fairly compared to those of the McCarthy Era. And now, this. For those of you who take pleasure in Comey’s latest action against HRC … How would you like to be investigated by a powerful federal agency for over a year, and even though no prosecution was recommended, have the head of that agency continue to drag your name through the muddy waters of innuendo?? This could happen to anyone, and ALL Americans should be concerned.

Totally agree, and as I said above…..why is it that they have spent so much time going after Hillary and have done NOTHING about Trump’s many legal problems. After all, he’s ALSO running for the presidency, and you’d think that they would be equally concerned about his background. Even some of the things he’s said in his rallies are things that a normal person would immediately be investigated for; i.e., insinuating that Hillary needs to be killed; threatening violence and legal actions against the Press (against the 1st Amendment), threatening to send people to monitor the polling places to intimidate voters, especially African Americans and Latinos……etc., etc., etc. But, we hear NOTHING from the FBI about these things! He’s threatened many things on many occasions that should have been thoroughly investigated! Even his Trump Foundation needs to be thoroughly investigated….much like the Clinton Foundation! Why do we not hear about any of his problems being investigated?

Harry Reid sent a letter several months ago to Comey asking the FBI to investigate Trump with regard to his close ties to Putin and Russia. THIS is the investigation that should have gone public. Trump invited the Russians to hack our communications to “find” the e-mails, and he has told Putin that, if elected, he will lift the sanctions imposed because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the stealing of Crimea, and will essentially let the Russian dictator work his will in Europe.

And, Robert, there are so many more things that Trump has done that need investigation, including his Trump Foundation, his many lawsuits, and I could go on and on! Why didn’t the FBI do anything about those? Apparently, they are now suddenly deciding to go after his Russian connections…..to little, too late!

I voted for Obama twice, and, like everyone else in this country who did the same, I placed my love and faith in his hands. His evaluation of Director Comey is perhaps the stupidest thing Obama has done during his presidency, especially considering the clarity and strength he has shown during these last few months. Comey has for most of his life been a registered Republican (he just changed to Independent this year), INCLUDING when he was chosen by Obama as Director of the FBI. I cannot imagine why Obama is backing such a traitor, or why he chose him in the first place

I couldn’t agree more. I can’t understand the president coming out and praising someone who has clearly gone out of his way to be totally partisan. Not only voicing outlandish idiotic opinions about Hillary misusing here email server which was a blatant lie; to now coming out and bringing up an investigation that is founded on nothing so close to the election; and on top of that – sitting on damning information the FBI clearly has about Trump’s close ties to the leader of a nation that could be considered America’s worst enemy. I’m dumbfounded Obama made those statements about Comey today as I agree with you – he’s a traitor in my mind and should have been fired and not praised.

Actually, I think Bush was the one that appointed him for some job in the government first…..not sure why President Obama promoted him except that he felt he was a honest and forthright person…….seems to be questionable at this point.

This has happened over and over with our current administration. The IRS, the FBI, Obamacare (you can keep your doctor, we have to wait until it is passed before we can find out what is in it) don’t you love Nancy Polosi?
      At least she is honest,
Have your premiums gone up? Health providers scarce and the price is going through the roof! Bill Clinton thinks it is crazy. His words and Hillary says she is going to fix it? This mess we are in is bizarre.

What really fries me is that the FBI, etc., has found SOOOO much against Hillary, but they don’t seem to do ANYTHING about the problems that Trump is having; i.e., the Trump Foundation, his illegal business activities, and I could go on and on! Seems to be a very one-sided group of people in my opinion! Trump has done MUCH worse than anything that Clinton has been purported to have done, but the FBI and the powers that be seem to only be focusing on Hillary!!!

Millions of Americans are very happy with having chosen Secretary Clinton for their next president. At least she is not going to court in the near future for raping a thirteen-year old, or for the fraud of Trump University, or for bribing the Florida Attorney General, or for the remainder of over 3,500 lawsuits for stiffing individuals and contractors. If you have chosen Trump as you hero, I guess you wouldn’t mind someone coming up behind you and grabbing your – well, let’s just leave it at that.

If Hillary wants to know what is on those emails that are on the pervert Weiner’s computer she should ask her right hand person, Huma. Huma has acknowledged that the emails from Hillary are on the computer but is throwing her husband, the perv,
under the bus, saying gee wiz, I just don’t know how they got there.
And corrupt Doina Brazil was just fired from CNN. Bernie was so correct. The system is so corrupt.

Partisan agents inside the FBI. They played Comey like a fiddle, and he fell for it. They want him to resign, so, ironically, the Dems’ best strategy may be to leave him in his post over Republican objections. Comey may be Hillary’s best defense.
