#EndorseThis: Colbert Nails Trump For Punting The Economy Into A Sarlacc Pit

President Trump may think of countries other than the USA as “shitholes.” But Stephen Colbert sees Trump’s big deficit-spending, sugar-rush economy leading America into a hole that even Luke Skywalker can’t rescue us from.

The comic begins a biting rant on the state of our wallets by welcoming Trump-era Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell to the “sarlacc pit,” a reference to Jabba the Hutt’s underground people-eating monster in Star Wars. You won’t need two guesses to tell which bloated slimeball plays Jabba in a dysfunctional White House.

But does Kellyanne Conway own a Slave Leia cosplay outfit? The Oval Office is spooky enough these days. Let’s not even go there.

Militarily and politically as well as economically, the war in Ukraine has been a major drain on Russia. President Vladimir Putin and his allies in the Kremlin were hoping for a quick, easy invasion, but Ukrainian forces have been much more skillful fighters than Putin anticipated.

Moreover, the invasion of Ukraine has had an unintended consequence: the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Sweden and Finland, for many years, stayed out of NATO; in 2022, they applied for membership. And U.S. President Joe Biden, in contrast to former President Donald Trump’s anti-NATO views, has welcomed NATO’s expansion.
