TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A California psychiatrist who has advised Gov. Ron DeSantis on the coronavirus pandemic recently promoted a drug for COVID-19 patients that federal disease experts have strongly warned against after a spike in calls to poison control centers. The surge of interest in the parasite drug, ivermectin, prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday to issue a national alert advising against its use to treat coronavirus. Florida Suffers 46,571 More COVID Cases In Two Days as Hospitals Fill

MIAMI – Florida reported 46,571 COVID-19 cases to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the last two days on Saturday, according to Herald calculations of CDC data. The state also reported 53 new deaths in the last two days. In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,040,590 confirmed COVID cases statewide and 42,001 deaths. On Friday, the CDC's website did update with new figures, but it showed Florida and several other states had zero new cases and deaths on Thursday. SURFSIDE, Fla. — In a 2018 report about the Champlain Towers South Condo in Surfside, an engineer flagged a “major error” dating back to the building’s origin where lack of proper drainage on the pool deck had caused “major structural damage,” according to records released late Friday night by town officials in the wake of the tower’s disastrous collapse on Thursday.
