Cable News (Except Fox) Increasingly Using On-Air Graphics To Combat Trump’s Lies

Media outlets have increasingly turned to chryons (or on-air graphics) to combat Donald Trump’s lies in real time. This media tactic has become an important tool given their inability to pushback on lies that are consistently repeated by the Trump campaign.

On the April 4 edition of MSNBC Live, MSNBC aired live footage from a Donald Trump rally where he claimed to have watched a videotape of the United States handing $400 million in “ransom money” to Iran. MSNBC debunked Trump’s claim using a chyron that read, “Trump Says He Watched (Nonexistent) Video Of Iran Receiving Cash.”

Later in the speech, when Trump again claimed to have seen “the video,” MSNBC used the same chyron to refute the false narrative. MSNBC later cut away from the speech and anchor Kate Snow invited NBC foreign correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin further debunk the narrative.

Previously, CNN earned considerable praise from the media after using its chyrons to fact check the Trump campaign’s lies.

CNN’s and MSNBC’s decision to use on-air graphics to combat misinformation follows extensive criticismreceived by cable news for poorly pushing back against lies from Donald Trump and his campaign.

According to Poynter, these types of fact checks have become increasingly important in a “post-fact world.”

American television has been accused of not stepping up its game to combat misinformation in this election cycle.

In many ways, the failure has been one of formats rather than content. When TV hosts have tried to correct the record they have sometimes done so by replaying long clips of the claim with no clear indication of its falsehood. In other occasions, they have not done enough homework to shut down a lie when the candidate hits back — even if they were entirely correct.

MSNBC, ABC,CNN and other similar media never use anything to point out flaws of the
Impeccable Hillary. Which is worse ?, telling a lie to the family of killed service men and fabricating a story for four weeks. Or allowing Moslem slime insult Trump for no reason .

I feel as if Hillary has been scrutinized plenty by the media. The difference is that the way in which she has conducted herself throughout this election and her lifetime is praise-worthy compared to some of the down-right lies that Donald has told. His behavior, temperament and demeanor are the reasons why the press pounces on him. Hillary is like a fart in a tornado compared to the outright deception and lies that really shows what this charlatan Donald is all about.

Clinton has learned over the years that every word she says will be ripped apart and used against her so her being very careful makes sense. Unlike Trump that just says the first thing that comes to mind and spends most of his time trying to defend his mistakes and back pedaling.

Please, the issue here is Trump. You won’t know anything about Hillary if she hasn’t been scrutinized for the past 40 years. Trump calls everybody, including the President, liars. But when one turns on TV or the news, one can see Trump
contradicting himself within days or even hours. Trump is the biggest liar alive
today in politics. Only uneducated halfwits will believe anything that this

Trump is correct; when negotiating with a vendor you can not show your cards , as in negotiating a car price , you hem and haw and say to the sales person ,” I do not have that much money (maybe a lie) ” then the sales person comes back with a better offe after discussing it with the “finance ” manager and the game goes on. It is a marketing dance where lying is an art form…… They teach these techniques in sales and marketing courses in reknown universities. Obviously
Lying in politics is rampant, but readily discernible. Trump is not good at it because he actually mixs in truths with it .

Here’s where I stand. After Bush, his lies, his disastrous Iraq War, and after watching his Party’s behavior after the election of Obama. In the wake of the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, where they refuse to lift a hand to help anyone but the rich, who caused the crisis in the first place. And the way they went about their obstruction. The way they callously demagogued the debt, in order to try to justify cutting food programs, and threatening to crash an already weaken economy. And just their overall traitorous politics, and shameless quest for power over everything else. I wouldn’t vote for a damn Republican if they were the last political organization on Earth. In fact, I wouldn’t care if Hillary Clinton has set the consultant in Benghazi on fire her damn self! I’d still vote for her a million times over, before I’d cast a single vote for idiot Trump. No one in the slammer …. because many politicians hands were green from the ink.
I find congress corrupted and want it dissolved and have them start over…..as someone remarked “why would one spend millions of dollars to hold an office that pays a Relatively low salary” ……only one reason!
Trump came along and was voted in as a messenger only to help correct the problems….as well as Bernie…..80%!of the voters know something had to be changed, Hillary and the congress, Democrats and Republicans can not make that change since they are corrupted , So know I .

There is actually no mystery behind the housing bubble. It’s complicated, it takes study, has been mischaracterized, as the various crooks, and scammers have sought to muddy the waters. But there really is no mystery to solve, that hasn’t been solved. Few if any went to jail because the scammers didn’t break the laws they wrote. Laws they paid a willing, begging for handouts Congress to pass. Trump, while pointing out the fraud in the paid for system on many levels. Did he really reveal anything that was not already known? HIs contribution in these matters is laudable. But not at all worthy of electing him, a wholly unqualified, even dangerous at best person, to become President. As a reward for telling us that which we already knew? The problem remains for the Conservative Right to solve, without imposing the price of it’s own internal disfunction, and voter anger on the totality of the Country.

I was being a bit facetious about dissolving Congress, but essentially Trump does not need them. to accomplish a few corrections : Close borders to potential terrorists, Eliminate EPA restrictions on fuel exploration, mines till newer sources are useable, Modify ACA and NAFTA agreements for the benefit of workers , bring back off shore profiteering to invest in US manufacturing, remove SS, Medicare and education off the table by a fix. if the people want to have this stuff they should be willing to pay up or take it from general GE funds /taxes that are hidden-never paid – and move on.
I personally favor Free HealthCare, SS, Education paid from General Funds, Keep it Simple, can be done, send all Congress Home, No PACS needed .

The difference in honesty between Hillary and Trump is like night and day. Hillary is the most honest candidate running; while less than 10% of what Trump ever says is remotely true.

And don’t take my word for that, that’s what PolitiFact, which one a Pulitzer for it’s fact checking ability has concluded:

See this excerpt from the NYTimes that quotes the findings of PolitiFact:

One basic test of a politician’s honesty is whether that person tells the truth when on the campaign trail, and by that standard Clinton does well. PolitiFact, the Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-checking site, found 50 percent of the Clinton statements it examined to be either true or mostly true.

That compares to 49 percent for Bernie Sanders’s, 9 percent for Trump’s, 22 percent for Ted Cruz’s and 52 percent for John Kasich’s. Here we have a rare metric of integrity among candidates, and it suggests that contrary to popular impressions, Clinton is relatively honest — by politician standards.

Better read this before you do any more praising of Trumps business successes:

Here’s n excerpt from the end of the article:

Trump’s many misrepresentations of his successes and his failures matter—a lot. As a man who has never held so much as a city council seat, there is little voters can examine to determine if he is competent to hold office. He has no voting record and presents few details about specific policies. Instead, he sells himself as qualified to run the country because he is a businessman who knows how to get things done, and his financial dealings are the only part of his background available to assess his competence to lead the country. And while Trump has had a few successes in business, most of his ventures have been disasters.

            And here’s another:

Trump is quick to boast that his purported billions prove his
business acumen, his net worth is almost unknowable given the loose standards and numerous outright misrepresentations he has made over the years. In that 2007 deposition, Trump said he based estimates of his net worth at times on “psychology” and “my own feelings.” But those feelings are often wrong—in 2004, he presented unaudited financials to Deutsche Bank while seeking a loan, claiming he was worth $3.5 billion. The bank concluded Trump was, to say the least, puffing; it put his net worth at $788 million, records show. (Trump personally guaranteed $40 million of the loan to his company, so Deutsche coughed up the money. He later defaulted on that commitment.)

            http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/08/02/1555822/-OUCH-Newsweek-exposes-Trump-as-the-business-fraud-he-is?detail=emailclassic&link_id=2&can_id=a411792ec3538dd9b3c310bcf6fda8aa&source=email-donald-trump-is-a-bad-father-tremendously-bad-the-worst-2&email_referrer=donald-trump-is-a-bad-father-tremendously-bad-the-worst-2&email_subject=donald-trump-is-a-bad-father-tremendously-bad-the-worst

I do not know the nuances of his financial dealings and his true net /gross worth. I dabble in these things and I have seen many ways to present financial statements.
Trumps failures are there as well as successes. He must have a positive balance sheet since the deutsch Bank saw some promise in his ventures.
There are financial failures on government programs and agreements also , ACA certainly many programs not funded adequately ,maybe some private sector prowess is needed in government. Over ten Trill dollars has been added to the budget and where are any results from this spending ? This represents $60k per US couple . This could have paid Medical Care cost for all, with no further taxes required and education as well, plus a small BMW. Has this money been accounted for.

IMO all hierarchically organized religions with a priestly caste have caused more harm than good despite the good intentions of some of the adherents. Any “salvation” religion offering either paradisaical or horrible afterlife options demeans this life and is the greatest sin against all life, not to mention the creation of a deluded or immature frightened mind.

He relates a story of a man who was half Italian and half Jewish, who was discussing how to buy an expensive item , saying he could get it wholesale or if that does not work he would than steal it . No one would approve of a Theocracy. Some like religion so we feel guilty about our sins and still have a god that will forgive us so we can have another sin. Its a comforting theory like having Virgins in Heaven, Raisons maybe but never virgins. Boston has the only remaining virgin that I personally know.

I don’t have a problem with Bernie. I agree with a lot, but not all, of Bernie’s ideas. Yes, a lot of people want change. Most of the people I know have been sick of politics as usual practiced by both Democrats and Republicans for years. Changes may be needed in who is elected to office but the system established by our founding fathers is still the best in history. All that is needed is people who are elected to be open, honest, rational, compassionate, and truly serve the people they represent instead of rule them while enriching themselves and their wealthy backers at the expense of the rest of their constituents. Our forefathers fought and died to be free from the rule and whims of a king. Now you want to replace our system with a narcissistic egomaniac autocrat who answers to no one. Donnie hates America. The only thing he likes about it is the money he makes here and the taxpayers who have bailed him out of failed business ventures. Donnie is for Donnie. Not you, not me, not America. As for bigotry and hatred, his entire campaign is full of many examples. His mistreatment of Blacks, slurs against Mexicans and women, his contemptuous treatment of his opponents in the Primaries, his love of Putin, his attacks on the Islamic faith, his belittling of a disabled reporter, his hatred of those who chose to be in the military instead of getting deferments for disabilities as bone spurs as he did, and his endorsement by the likes of people like Sean Hannity and David Duke who he incredulously claimed not to know anything about.

Mr Clapper, CIA FBI Comey all said the danger is high in allowing un vetted people to enter this country from Terrorist areas. Can I identify every , probably…..But in this EMERGENCY case you do not have to go to use sophisticated measures. Just ban immigrants from these areas. ISIL admitted to having infiltrated these refugees. The ban should be lifted after proper vetting procedures can be implemented

I would never notify Homeland Security because of the incompetence of the Administrator. He would send up Orange Balloons to warn the Citizenry….a childish approach. If terrorist see this they will wait for a Green Balloon Day. This Stupid Administrator announces what we are doing, essentially warning the enemy.

I would not want to vote for Hillary , since with all of her years of negotiating experience, has caused the dissolution of the Mid East into the present chaos. I can easily vote for the third party candidates but they failed to present their case as Bernie, an Independent, and Trump as an Independent Liberal/Republican? ….Both showed courage to challenge the current, corrupt, status quo and enter the nominating process. Knowledge of current policy and precedent and Republican or Democrat politics has resulted in this corruption, therefore , creative solutions are needed.

Construction contracts are complex puzzles that have to be bid to make sure cost overruns do not occur…in private enterprises. Some contractors low ball the bids and can not meet their obligations and may not be paid for their lack of business prowess. Whereas Government contracts have constant overruns but are eventually paid by Tax Payers…Dumb.

The vast majority of lost manufacturing jobs ARE NOT DUE TO NAFTA, but rather are due to the pirating of manufacturing company after manufacturing company by companies like Bane Capital that were run by corporate pirates like Mitt Romney!!

Even when GM and Chrysler were struggling to keep out of bankruptcy, Mitt and is buddy Singer, along with some others pirated a company called Delphi (was Delco), the auto industry’s largest small parts maker. They sucked up all Delphi’s assets including its pension fund, dumping its pension liabilities on you and me the taxpayers. They destroyed 25,000 union jobs in the process and shipped the company to China.

And this was at the height of the Great Recession, so guess what they did in better times. People like Mitt are as UNAMERICAN as it gets – and you’re blogging to support these people!!! What an idiot!!!

There are many MBAs that are more cold in their techniques. I have walked away from these kinds of business models. Ok , Mom. I am quite familiar with automation and the efficiencies it can bring, unfortunately some jobs / workers may have to be re assigned and that is what we have done. We made investments locally, not offshore and automated routine jobs and used the displaced workers on other assignments , we did not get rid of anyone and that is our model.

first, let me tell you this. I spent my career as an automation engineer with a major manufacturer. I helped implement the systems at a major auto company. I saw the progress from computer punch cards to PLCs to full scale automated systems. Here is my point – the days when a person could leave high school and go to work in a steel mill/rubber factory/auto factory and make a great living are gone. Nothing will provide that kind of opportunity for an uneducated person in any country. Period. Reassign? not going to suffice. That was then and this is now and if you and your generation don’t get it you will follow in the footsteps of these folks. And a question – exactly who is “our” when you say “our model”?

“Our” = “My” model. Corps have invested in offshore areas with new production automation instead investing in the US. If you invest abroad with lower wages, then sell it abroad to those same people at the lower ? price. Do not ship it back and hide the profits /Taxes in offshore shelters. If I want a BMW I will pay the price or they will lower it if we here do not buy because of costs……as every where else ….Supply and Demand??

not entirely true with regard to corps investing offshore and not in the US. I have made an amazingly good living working with corps right in in the US planning and installing automation. And I have seen those same companies begging young people to learn the technology operate them. I have also seen highly skilled labor jobs, for example tool and die makers, going begging for young people to learn the trade. You miss the point completely. Sure you do. And it seems to anyone actually watching, American Muslims are assimilating, are contributing, are good citizens, and trust worthy Americans. And Trump it seems, wants to change all that. Wants to agree with the terrorists that the West hates, discriminates against, and disrespects the Muslim at every turn. And it’s time Muslims joined them [the terrorists] and stopped buying into this chimera proposed in a poorly followed, meaningless document that says all people have the Right in America to follow their faith as they see fit. But that it it actually only for the White Christian, not the Muslim, not the Hindu, not everyone. That the great America is actually the great phony, the hypocrite. the great liars That we Americans are fakers, and need to be brought to justice.
The young Muslim in heartland Minnesota reads this garbage on the internet, then turns on his T.V., hears Trump’s hateful message, sees the cheering angry masses at his rallies. And starts to believe. But not in the promise of a just America, but in the America Trump is proposing. And he starts his journey all by himself, in the privacy of his parents house, on his way to radicalism, and eventually perhaps even terror on one of America’s streets.

It’s always amazing to me that some Americans who’ve lived in this Country all their lives, and have always offered their undying support to the Constitution. In fact, demonstrate in the clearest of terms, they know practically nothing about the document, or the laws that underpin those Rights they claim to be so devoted to. There is nothing more seditious about Sharia Law to the Constitution, than Jewish Law, or Biblical Law, or Rastafarian Law. What constitutes constitutional demagoguery, is when one group advocates the clear violation of the Constitution, ignores constitutional intent, and precedent, in order to establish thru extra constitutional laws, the primacy of their chosen religiosity over the other various forms. Then grabs the flag as a prop, so maybe no one will notice they are every bit as power hungry as any Middle Eastern Mulla, or Potentate we’ve ever heard of.

I’ve read most of the 86 Federalist papers. Again we agree on Biblical aberrations and therefore Islam would be also seditious. Either modify, Reform or go back home. That is why the founders said pray and be gay but do it without bothering anyone. The flag is not a prop but Represents the People of the US, where most of the world apparently want to be a part..

The flag becomes a prop when used to justify religious, and ethnic cleansing as something America, and it’s symbols stand in representation of. That these are Patriotic, and freedom loving people, is a demonstrable lie by their own words.

The Federalist Papers were a hoot at the time the Constitution was ratified. They are irrelevant to todays discussion.

Is chopping heads off for violating the law legal in the U.S.? Is stoning legal? Burning at the stake? No. We don’t criminalize, or tyrannize the legal practices of free expression, and chosen belief. My conscience may tell me Trump needs a good public spanking for telling such lies in the public square as he does. And misleading so many people of otherwise good will, and honest intent. But that’s not how we do things here. So let’s not change that, shall we?

How did Hillary lie?? By telling the facts as they were given to her at the moment?

In case you brainwashed Faux News sheeple don’t realize it, there were two attacks on the Benghazi CIA detachment on the day 4 people died; there was an afternoon attack and night attack. And the information being reported by the Benghazi office changed. People there originally believed that the attack was in retaliation to the hate rhetoric spewed against Muslims in a video. And then later, because the attackers also had some lose affiliation with al Qaeda, some started saying it was a terrorist motivated attack.

So guess what, Faux News saw an opportunity to make a scandal out of nothing and started harping about Hillary lying when she had simply reported to the family what she had been told when the Benghazi office said it was because of a video – which by chance. LOWLIFE, the mastermind of the attack has confirmed!! The attack was initially revenge for the video!! It has never been proven to have been terrorist motivated. So it’s been Faux News that has lied!!

You’re confusing Fox listeners with facts.
Since facts don’t fit their beliefs, they just put their fingers in ears and say “la la la!”, so they can’t hear.

What a load of BS. The media could fact check anybody if they chose to. Now the country is acting like Donald is the first Republican that ever told a lie to the media? All Republicans lie to the media all of the time about all things and we all damn well know it. It has gotten so bad that when asked about it Chuck Todd of NBC told us it wasn’t the media’s job to fact check Republicans. 2 years ago!
Here is what is going to happen. When Trump is gone the media will go right back to letting Republicans lie with impunity, and when we try to point out that what they are doing in the future is racist or bigoted or bald faced lying, the media will allow them to say there is no racism and bigotry and dishonesty in the Republican Party as their rebuke of Trump proved.
By this time next year the media will go right back to hearing Republican lies that they didn’t really hear at all. Count on it.
