Trump Says ‘Second Amendment People’ ‘Can Do’ Something About Hillary Clinton

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Reuters) – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump suggested on Tuesday that gun rights activists could act to stop his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton from nominating liberal U.S. Supreme Court justices, igniting yet another firestorm of criticism just as he sought to steer clear of controversy.

“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks,” Trump said at a rally. “Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know,” he continued. The U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment guarantees a right to bear firearms.

Until Trump made the remark, he had been trying to rally Republican voters behind him and against Clinton, who is leading in national opinion polls in the race for the Nov. 8 election. Some in the audience who were seated behind Trump could be seen wincing when he made the comment.

Clinton’s campaign called the remark “dangerous.”

“A person seeking to be the president of the United States should not suggest violence in any way,” it said.

When asked to clarify what Trump meant, his campaign said Trump was referring to getting supporters of the Second Amendment to rally votes for Trump in the election.

“It’s called the power of unification – 2nd Amendment people have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power,” the Trump campaign statement said.

Introducing Trump at a later rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani accused the news media of taking the remark out of context to help Clinton, a former U.S. secretary of state, get elected.

“What he meant by that (remark) was you have the power to vote against her,” he said to cheers. “You have the power to speak against her. You know why? Because you’re Americans.”

“It proves that most of the press is in the tank for Hillary Clinton,” he added. “They are doing everything they can to destroy Donald Trump.”

The U.S. Secret Service, which provides security details for both Trump and Clinton and rarely comments on political matters, said when asked for a response to Trump: “The Secret Service is aware of the comment.”

By day’s end, Trump was drawing criticism on several fronts, another chapter in a campaign marked by bitterness and partisanship.

Michael Hayden, a former CIA director who on Monday was among 50 Republican national security experts to denounce Trump in a letter, said on CNN, “You’re not just responsible for what you say. You are responsible for what people hear.”

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a liberal firebrand who loves tweaking Trump, tweeted that Trump “makes death threats because he’s a pathetic coward who can’t handle the fact that he’s losing to a girl.”

Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway fought back in a tweet of her own, calling Warren a “disgrace.”

GUN RIGHTS AN ISSUE

Gun rights have been a potent issue in a 2016 campaign being waged amid violence that has convulsed many American cities.

Trump has planted himself firmly on the side of gun owners with a “law and order” campaign. Before his remark about Clinton, he had said Islamic State militants who killed 130 people in France last year could have been stopped if some of the victims had been armed.

The Clinton campaign has challenged Trump when in the past he has accused her of planning to abolish the Second Amendment if elected president. A senior Clinton policy adviser said in May that she favors taking steps at the federal level to keep guns out of the hands of criminals while protecting the Second Amendment.

Tuesday’s speech came on the heels of a discordant week on the campaign trail for Trump, a businessman seeking his first public office. He came under fire from within his party for belatedly endorsing fellow Republicans in re-election races and a prolonged clash with the parents of fallen Muslim American Army captain Humayun Khan.

On Monday, Trump had seemed to be heeding Republican advice to stick to a message of criticizing Clinton and other Democrats while putting forward economic policy proposals in a speech in Detroit.

Trump’s vice presidential running mate Mike Pence, asked if he believed Trump was inciting violence toward Clinton, told NBC’s Philadelphia affiliate: “Of course not. No.”

But Democrats called Trump’s remarks another sign of a candidate unfit for the White House.

“Don’t treat this as a political misstep. It’s an assassination threat, seriously upping the possibility of a national tragedy & crisis,” U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat, said in a tweet.

Immediately after Trump made his comment, many on social media accused him of effectively calling for Clinton’s assassination. In just three hours, 2nd amendment became the top trending topic on Twitter, with more than 60,000 posts mentioning the term.

Overall sentiment on the posts was more negative than positive, at a ratio of 2.5 to 1, according to the social media analytics firm Zoomph. #ProtectHillary was also one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter.

The 50 prominent national security officials said in their letter on Monday that Trump would be “the most reckless president in American history.”

“He appears to lack basic knowledge about and belief in the U.S. Constitution, U.S. laws and U.S. institutions, including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent judiciary,” their statement said.

It should come as no surprise that Liberal’s take Trump’s comments out of context, especially Clinton News network and her fellow establishment Democrats. While Trump was not issuing any kind of threat, and to think so is f-ing retarded, he is well versed in the history that brought us the 2nd Amendment way back in the 1700’s. A little history lesson for all you Liberal snowflakes, the 2nd Amendment is to allow the people to defend themselves against an oppressive government, should ours become one, which it has long ago.

But in all reality, it would take probably a decade for a Hitlary SCOTUS to strike down the 2nd Amendment. Probably as likely to happen as striking down abortion. Both will take an Amendment and thats just not going to happen in this country.

But, as for Trumps comments, he’s quite correct, should Hitlary attempt to undermine legal gun ownership and/or attempt confiscation, the 100 million or so the 2nd Amendment people will remove her from office….

Just to save time you wouldn’t mind providing your address so the Secret Service can have a little chat with you ? I believe most sensible people understood exactly what was said. Not that Trump is electable but assuming he was President you’ll witness firsthand what an oppressive government up close would look like. I can promise you that there would be a new civil war in this country. There’s no way good Americans will sit idly by & watch a clearly unstable person run roughshod over our freedoms. Your moniker name suits you well

Saying that our government is oppressive is as ridiculous, and dangerous, as saying our electoral system is rigged.
I spent 30 years overseas. Much of that time in countries like Venezuela, when General Perez Jimenez ruled the country; and in Spain, when Generalissimo Franco was the “Caudillo” (ruler).
The very fact that you and I can post opinions on forums like this, without fear of persecution, imprisonment, or worse, indicates that your opinion on this subject is nothing more than hyperbole, used to make a political point to reinforce your support for criminals, suspected terrorists, and unstable people to buy semi-automatic weapons to murder innocent people.
The overwhelming majority of gun related incidents have absolutely nothing to do with people fighting oppression.
BTW, Hillary has not proposed, or even hinted a desire to abolish the 2nd Amendment.

A more appropriate history lesson for you troglodytes: The Second Amendment STARTS with the Phrase “A well regulated militia being necessary for the protection of the people…..which is what you ALL forget to mention when you go on about having Assault Rifles for hunting and home protection. Like “The Donald” none of you are willing to recognize nor take responsibility for the impact of what you say. First amendment DOES NOT protect your right to stand up and yell “FIRE” in a crowded auditorium, nor does it protect the right of a Presidential Candidate from making a statement that could CLEARLY been interpreted as advocating violence. You just don’t have the intellect to see what is right before your eyes.

Ahh, you must be a product of a Liberal, public “education”. The main purpose of OUR 2nd. Amendment was to protect ourselves from an oppressive Central Government. In order for The People to even form a Militia, we need our own personal weapons. What would you recommend, asking the Federal Government to hand out weapons to form a Militia? Geeeze, think!

What has the government done to you Godzilla that you need to protect yourself against their oppressive behavior? Clinton has never said she wants to strike down the 2nd Amendment – please turn off Faux News and Alex Jones.

There are only about 5 to 6 million NRA members not 100 million. Further most responsible gun owners don’t have a problem with expanding gun safety laws, which is what Clinton is working towards along with millions of Americans.

“Ronald Reagan said on February 6, 1989 the following: “ I don’t believe in taking away the right of the citizen for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense. But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.”
“A majority of Americans agree with us on this. And, by the way, so did Ronald Reagan, one of the staunchest defenders of the Second Amendment, who wrote to Congress in 1994, urging them — this is Ronald Reagan speaking — urging them to listen to the American public and to the law-enforcement community and support a ban on the further manufacture of military-style assault weapons.”
Ronald Reagan said: “While we recognize that assault-weapon legislation will not stop all assault-weapon crime, statistics prove that we can dry up the supply of these guns, making them less accessible to criminals.”

Our Founding Fathers allowed for Americans to own guns. However, these same Founding Fathers said that Americans were allowed to own people. Thank heavens we made changes to the latter, but why is it so difficult and unrealistic to make changes in the former ?

There is a question as to what the Founding Fathers meant with the second amendment. If you read the minutes of the Continental Congress Meetings {available on line] You can see all their arguments and know they did not mean every nutjob to carry an assault weapon. England id nto allow the colonists to arm themselves with their own militia. This allowed England to bully the colonists.

It is incredulous that anyone, who is not a “Conservathal” or expect some sort of pay off, would support him.. His “self-funding” of the campaign is mostly loans to his campaign, so he is even milking is supports. His so-called economic plan would mostly benefit those in his social class. I wonder just what his tax returns and financial records would tell us about him? Does he really think he needs the Presidency to pay off his debts?
I believe he will come up with some kind of “breakdown” excuse, take the money from his sham of a campaign then after the election have a “miraculous” recovery. He probably even believes he has a “career” to fall back on, but by then his name will be Mudd.

I do not believe Donald “The Fraud” Trump will ever be President of the United States. History will record “The Fraud” for what he really is.

Sure. Any criminal in Chicago drives a few hours east on a weekend and buys whatever he wants, no ID required. Want a nice, shiny new Barrett .50cal? No prob. They’re legal to buy in Indiana, and at the weekend gun shows, a fistful of dead presidents buys it with no questions, and no pesky ID forms, required.
Want a more mundane weapon? Well in addition to Indiana there’s Wisconsin (no questions asked in weekend gun shows), Missouri (no questions asked most of the time), Kentucky.
So, really restrictive gun laws don’t really stop criminals, so long as the idiots around them don’t care. Now, if all the surrounding states’ sellers had to obey the same laws on Saturday and Sunday that they do every other day of the week, maybe Chicago gun violence would decline in a few years (have to allow time for the criminals to get caught and their guns put in the evidence locker.)

He was directing his speech at those that think like Dylan, that think the message is directed to them, to take action. You are correct about the NRA. The biggest supporter of guns, the NRA, is simply a very highly paid lobbying group for American gun and munitions manufacturers. The NRA is not interested in anything as noble as the US Constitution, their interest is based solely on profits. Selling guns to anyone is their objective, sort of a domestic arms race

The Second Amendment itself is one of the shortest; “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
This amendment refers specifically to a “well-regulated militia”, such as each state’s National Guard, not every person who wants an assault rifle. If you wish to have such weapons you just have to be part of a “well-regulated militia”, and demonstrate you have the ability to use such weapons safely.

Sarah Palin also did “something” when she posted a picture of Gaby Giffords super imposed on cross hairs, with predictable consequences. Not surprisingly, we are once again hearing the same excuses that were given then: it was a joke, her act had absolutely nothing to do with the shooting that followed, or it was a conspiracy theory concocted by paranoid Democrats and a complicit media.
Suffice it to say, that most rational people did not find Trump’s joke funny. What his supporters, surrogates, and FOX are ignoring is the power of words, and how they may be interpreted by members of an audience that don’t need much to over react.
The most benign criticism that can be directed at Donald is that he is an irresponsible candidate, unqualified and unfit to be President of the USA.

Donald Trump knew exactly what he was saying–as did Sarah Palin. There are “crazies” out there who listen to what Palin or Trump say and then will act on it. Trump knows that Clinton NEVER said she wanted to take all guns away from those who already have guns. He knows that if elected, Clinton’s choice for appointment to the Supreme Court is dependent on Congress. Trump is the Queen of Gossip; the Queen of Hypocrites; the Drama Queen–he is like a little girl who is a member of the mean girls club in junior high school and he wants to act tough and get himself a lot of attention. He cannot intelligently discuss the issues so he plays the role of being the puppet of the NRA and tries to get himself media attention by lying or saying outrageous things. He always prefaces his comments with “millions of people tell me” or “everyone says” or “most people think” even though he can never back up what he says unless it is a title of an article in the tabloids. Trump is ignorant and never thinks about whether or not what he is spouting off is actually true.

That’s where most of the recorded videos stop, that’s where the transcriptions stop, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Check out the full event recording at “Daily Mulligan” and scroll in to 56:20 to start.

He said the stuff above, and then continued: “But I’ll tell you what, that would be a horrible day.”

So, if Trump was saying (as his handlers now insist) that he was calling for unity and getting out the vote, why would that be “a horrible day”? If he was referring to the lawsuits that would be filed by the NRA, why would that be “a horrible day”?

Only the murder of Clinton or her nominees makes sense. That would make it “a horrible day”, exactly as he was calling for.

Trump meant it would be a horrible day if folks actually had to use their weapons to stop the government from taking them away. Remember, Hillary is the only candidate who used the word ASSASSINATION, back in May 23, 2008 when she was running against Obama.

Yes, Trump is appealing to criminals, since they would be the ONLY ones affected by the proposals to limit the ways that CRIMINALS could get new guns. There is no proposal anywhere in the Universe to go collect anyone’s guns, so that’s just another Trump lie.

          5. InformedVoter August 11, 2016

Please prove Trump is playing to criminals. If the 2nd Amendment is stricken down, then the government will go around collecting weapons. Trump’s horrible day would be when those who possess guns actually have to use them to defend their right to own them.
Trump never said anything about criminals getting guns and using them. Stop lying! Try actually learning or understanding what was said. Stop believing the lies the left is selling.

Oh bullshit. A2 is in no danger of being repealed, and no one has said so. Stop the lying.
“Please prove Trump is playing to criminals.” For those who finished third grade, it’s the transitive property:
The changes in the law will only affect criminals. Trump is asking those who will be affected to shoot Hillary. Therefore, Trump is appealing to criminals.

          7. InformedVoter August 11, 2016

I would agree that the A2 is not likely to get repealed but if the SCOTUS declares guns for citizens to be illegal guess what, they lose their guns. You are totally making up the concept that criminals are the only ones affected. Please PROVE that Trump is asking for anyone to get shot. Meanwhile, Hillary, in 2008 actually implied that someone could/would attempt to ASSASSINATE BHO. How come no one thought she was threatening BHO?
SO PLEASE SHOW THE EXACT LANGUAGE THAT ANY COURT OF LAW WOULD ACCEPT THAT TRUMP USED TO APPEAL TO CRIMINALS TO SHOOT ANYONE. The reality is that there is not and you are just pissed that you were, once again duped by the left! You are low information and you prove it every chance you get. How does it feel to be a stooge to the dummy media? You are pathetic!

As the GWB supporters have said: “That’s ancient history.”
So far as Trump goes, the only court that matters is the court of public opinion. It’s funny that lots of GOP members are now claiming that “he was a Democrat for 60 years, no wonder he just doesn’t get it.” He’s already lost.
Hillary’s health: so now you’re wishing evil on another person. You’ve stooped as low as Trump, but at least it’s you making the call, not blankly asking someone else to do your bidding. But, if anything happens to her, Kaine is president. I’m not seeing a problem.
Do shills collect unemployment compensation? Were you officially employed by Trump, or self employed?

Your reading comprehension matches your written skill set. Please show me which of my words wished evil on another person. Guess what? You can’t because I never did. I merely provided evidence that Hillary’s health is now in question.
If Hillary gets elected, but doesn’t get sworn in, then Kaine cannot assume the presidential duties. The same is true if Hillary gets indicted for her treasonous actions. She would not be qualified to serve, so if she gets bounced before being sworn in, then again Kaine cannot take over. I doubt if you can comprehend what was just posted.

FACT: Donald Trump cannot control the unhinged nuts who support him.
FACT: According to Trump’s chief campaign manager, we didn’t hear what Trump said.
FACT: According to Trump’s campaign manager, there are 90,000 million “gun owners” in the US.
FACT: The GOP is willfully allowing Trump to incite gun owning Trump supporters

Of course, the GOP would be thrilled if some “Lone Wolf” assassinated Hillary Clinton. Isn’t that the same thing they pulled with JFK, RFK, MLK and isn’t this exactly what Putin does to anyone who dares defy or disagree with him?

Wow…Who’d have thought we would all have to live with 90 million AR-15s ready to murder us from daring to exercise our rights to vote as we choose or to disagree with their unhinged minds?

You heard what Trump said. Now, the GOP, including Paul Ryan, is trying to do damage control by telling us we never heard what Trump said.YES WE DID!

The reality is the gun addicts know they have 90 million AR-15s or more in their arsenals. Think about how their addiction to power could so very easily have them marching in the streets to show their POWER.

That isn’t democracy. It is exactly what Putin does. He allows protests ONLY if they agree with him. And then, as I saw on a travel show of Anthony Bourdain’s last episode, Putin gluts the streets with the military to insure no protester utters a word he doesn’t like.

This is serious folks. The 2nd amendment was NEVER intended to hand 90 million gun owners all the power of our streets or our lives.

His message is not policy, his message is bragging about himself and riling up the Trumpettes at his rallies to feed his narcissism. He cannot handle criticism and refuses to listen to advice. ENOUGH OF TRUMP VIOLENCE. Throughout his primary campaign he was regularly calling for Trumpies at his rallies to beat protesters and talking about people he wanted to punch. The sight of a Trumpie sucker punching a black man being forcibly removed for exercising his 1st Amendment rights was appalling. Now it is clear that it was just an appetizer. He is now calling on Trumpies to assassinate Hillary Clinton and any judges she may get the Senate to appoint to the Supreme Court. Of course that is assuming Senators Mitch McConnell and Charles Grassley will obey the Constitution and give them a hearing instead of delaying it until after the next presidential election in 2020. He lies and says that she wants to do away with the 2nd Amendment either literally or essentially. Well Donnie, she can’t repeal the 2nd Amendment. If you had bothered reading the U.S. Constitution, you would know that. Also Donnie you well know that with all the Republicans in Congress, there is no way she can get gun control legislation passed. YOU ARE A LIAR. You say that you were only “joking.” Calling for the assassination of a presidential candidate is not a joke. People are laughing at you, not with you Donnie. You seek to normalize political assassination by claiming it is a subject that can be “joked” about. This isn’t Russia you despicable cretin. You try to explain it away by claiming that you were only trying to get your 2nd Amendment people to get out the vote for you. Newsflash Donnie — they were already doing that for you so , once again, YOU LIED. BTW Donnie, tell Kellyanne Conway “You’re Fired!” She is a disgrace.

It is so like Donald Trump to edit that speech the minute Americans recognize his mental insanity. If he is now saying what HE SAID isn’t what HE MEANT, what does that say about his mental stability?

The only thing he could have done was to say, “I am sorry.” Unfortunately, mentalities like his never believe they EVER do or say anything offensive. So they don’t feel they should apologize for inappropriate, offensive speech. To them, that’s their right to abuse the First Amendment, reinvent the 2nd Amendment and generally contort the intent of the U.S. Constitution to create an organized, peaceful, well ordered, responsible, SAFE society.

Tell me again how allowing 90 million AR-15 owners is remotely connected to a SAFE society?

Hillary said “my husband didn’t lock up the nomination until June (1992) and we all remember that Bobby Kennedy was ASSASSINATED in June”. Was Hillary suggesting someone would or should assassinate BHO?
Joe Biden, in September 2008, in response to the threat that if Obama won, he would take away “our guns”. Biden said “I’ve got two shotguns and I know how to use them. Obama will never take my shotguns away”. Was Biden implying he would use his shotguns on BHO?
For the low information folks who read this forum, Trump was explaining the 2nd Amendment, in that those with guns would/could use them to stop the government from taking their guns. That is why the 2nd Amendment was put in, to stop the government from disarming the general population.
