A former cabinet member of George W. Bush has endorsed Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid. Carlos Gutierrez, who once served as Commerce Secretary under Bush spoke to CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday about the possibility of a Trump presidency Sunday morning and confirmed that he would be throwing his support behind Clinton.

Gutierrez cited Trump’s comments toward minorities as part of the reason he believed Trump would not make a good president.

“I don’t want to go back fifty years,” Gutierrez told Tapper, discussing Trump’s disparaging comments towards a Federal judge with Mexican heritage.

Gutierrez believes Clinton is “better for the country” and “less risky.” He also seemingly called out some of his party colleagues, saying, “A Trump presidency, in spite of the fact that he is a Republican, is dangerous.”

It’s “time to think about country over party,” Gutierrez continued. “Hillary Clinton is best for the country.”

Gutierrez indicated that he had sent emails to Jeb Bush and George W. Bush’s teams, letting them know that he would be endorsing Clinton, but that he had not heard back.

“I am afraid of what Donald Trump would to do this country,” he told Tapper.

Tapper mentioned that Trump would likely label Gutierrez part of the elite who created the America he sees as a “mess,” as he has done previously with Republicans who have vocalized their support for Clinton.

Gutierrez is not the first ex-Bush cabinet member to endorse Clinton: he joins Hank Paulson, former Treasury secretary to George W. Bush and Brent Scowcroft, former national security adviser to Bush, in supporting the Democratic nominee.

Clinton, for her part, has put a plan in place to specifically target Republicans who cannot stomach a Trump presidency.
