A broad swath of official economic data shows that America and its people are in much worse shape than when we paid higher taxes, higher interest rates and made more of the manufactured goods we use.

The numbers since the turn of the millennium point to even worse times ahead if we stay the course. Let’s look at the official numbers in today’s dollars and then what can be done to change course.

First, incomes and jobs since 2000 measured per American:

Internal Revenue Service data show that average adjusted gross income fell $2,699 through 2010 or 9 percent, compared to 2000. That’s the equivalent of making it through Thanksgiving weekend and then having no income for the rest of the year.

Had average incomes just stayed at the level in 2000, Americans through 2009 would have earned $3.5 trillion more income, the equivalent of $26,000 per taxpayer over a decade. Preliminary 2010 data show a partial rebound, reducing the shortfall by a fifth to $2.8 trillion or $21,000 per taxpayer.

Wages per capita in 2010 were 4.3 percent less than in 2000, effectively reducing to 50 weeks the pay for 52 weeks of work. The median wage in 2010 fell back to the level of 1999, with half of workers grossing less than $507 a week, half more, Social Security tax data show. The bottom third, 50 million workers, averaged just $116 a week in 2010.

Social Security and Census data show that the number of people with any work increased just 1.5 percent from 2000 to 2010 while population grew 6.4 times faster. That’s why millions of people cannot find work no matter how hard they try.

In May, nearly 23 million workers, 14.8 percent, were jobless or underemployed, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. At shadowstats.com, a website dedicated to exposing and analyzing flaws in government economic data, economist John Williams also counts people who have given up hope of finding work. His figure for May brings the total to almost 30 million people, one in five.

An economy with many millions more workers than jobs puts downward pressure on wages, especially for those without highly developed skills.

Nah I’ll rather keep my money then give it to the government to waste especially as a small business owner.

      I totally agree.

      14,000 income 3800 budget
      Yet! borrow 1300?
      Why?
50% get 87% individual income and pay 13.5% Tax rate

We have the income why not use it to help pay our way
GE over 10 years paid 2.3% Tax Rate. What the xxxx?
      GENERAL ELECTRIC TAXES PAID 2001-2011
      Pretax US Profits—$81.169 Billion
      Federal Income Tax Paid—$1,877 Billion
Federal Tax Rate—2.3% average over ten years

      received
      $11,998 Billion—Refund $33 Million (2002)
      $4643 Billion—-Refund $651 million(2008)
      $2063 Billion—-Refund $$649 million(2009)
      $3714 Billion—Refund $3027 Billion (2010)

The Tax Code has about 1,000 Billion in Exemptions
Deficit 1300 so we could come close on it

It pays to have 900 in Tax department

A 35% tax rate would have yielded 28.6 Billion

Your article point out something that has been prevalent in our Government for quite some time. The reason? Career Politicians. We “hire” a Representative or a Senator to go to Washington and represent us and we expect them to be “honorable” and “trustworthy” and that may well be their intent when they are elected but then they get totally enraptured with the power and prestige and money opportunities in Washington and then build their own little bureaucracies and before we realize what has happened we have a career corrupt politician rather than an accountable representative for our interests. My pet name for these creatures are Galley Rats – those that feed off the money and sweat of those whom they were elected to represent.

These galley rats infest the halls of Congress throughout and they need to be ousted by voting procedures before this Country totally collapses because of their avarice and greed.

This can only be accomplished by WE THE PEOPLE.

I do not personally care for the Tea Party tactics and agenda but I do give then due credit in their organizational abilities.

We need to put aside our petty differences and make a concerted effort to oust the rats and get good young representation in Washington- committed “Servants” dedicated to preserving this Great Country we call Home.

Let us all diligently work in our local communities to spread the word and encourage people to vote.

In their inception the Tea Party operated on “WE THE PEOPLE”.

Today we need to pick up that same banner and proclaim that this is not a Country for Self interest and Career Politicians but a Country for WE THE PEOPLE.

But you should realize that these ‘Galley Rats’ were also once “committed “Servants”.. There’s no guarantee that your going to get any better once the newby’s replace them, so.. The only way to insure this, is to re-write the benefit options.. Do not pay them any more than the national average (after all, isn’t this profession meant to be as a servant.. that your voted in to make a difference for the people) then no perks, vacation like blue collar, four year term and close evaluation 0f record before allowing to run again.. No pension (unless they pay out of pocket as blue collar) S.S. only.. Strict taboo of special interest, speculation and covert profits.. In short, don’t make it profitable for them and THEN you’ll begin to find the really honest ones.

        • oldtack

I agree with you 100%. The question is – How do WE THE PEOPLE begin to affect a change and rectify the situation? this

          • DurdyDawg

Education (not necessarily schooling) Investigation and individually committed votes (not party). Insist to the one’s in charge today to create rules, laws and regulations within the political arena that will ensure honesty and sincerity then apply it to them. We can’t physically force it upon our law makers because this (1) isn’t the 14th century and (2) they own the big guns (that we happily armed them with). These (so-called) militants may be able to protect their little part of the play ground but they would be obliterated by professional soldiers in record time if they started an uprising (that’s what the camps are being created for). It won’t be easy O.T., after all it took at least 10 years to get where we are now. Thanks for reading.

Most of the population loosing their income is the elderly. The cost of living has gone up and income is down. If we make money we will be happy to pay higer taxes. The people making a million or one hundred thousand or even forty thousand think they should be exempt from paying higher taxes. We have always paid our share of taxes; remember Social Security is not a tax it is a insurance plan paid by the working people. It has worked and has kept the elderly out of poverty and given stability to the handicap. It has worked so well that the republicans want to private-tize so they can make a profit and have all that money to give to their buddys. They stole from the funds and gave it to their constitutents as payments to farmers and oil company’ for not doing anything. Is that Socialistic? /Entitlements?

    • Gammaanya

Like I wrote before SS, Medicare and Free Public Education are socialistic Programs, created in the 1930 by FDR after the great Depression. It was sippose to be to protect the sick, elderly and disabled from poverty and lack of basic medical care. Private sector willnot provide these for people who are disabled, sick, no longer working and do not so called contribute to society. It’s not entiltlemnt, we and employer pay into it. We dod not have socialistic system here, we are mixed. The support for these programs came from Judaic-Christian tenet of faith – to protect the poor, elderly, sick and disabled. They followed ” Give hand to the poor and ask for nothing in return” – Jesus. Unfortunately today the Bible Thumphers live in palaces with approval of the masses who follow their teaching that have nothing to do with helping poor. No matter what religion You are it’s all about money. It’s sad that people as so engrossed with the religious thing but none truly practice it. Same goes for Politics. Money buys everybody. The saddest part is that most people just vote for the one who brings God and promise more money in your pocket and they vote for them. Yes they do get the money in their own pockets. For the life of me I will never know why these people get voted in when they DO NOTHING for the VOTER. Every Politician, every citizen should put COuntry First, GOD and Family. Men with out country is like a fish out of water. ED C. You are right. Clarence – U R right. I am sorry but we will be going the selfdestructing path because some people like to be the 10 % Champaigne taste with beer pocket so I better vote for the champaigne and maybe I can get few drops, sorry to say but empty bottle most likely. Welcome to United States of Austerity.

For the forty year period from 1968-2008, Republicans were in the White House for 28 years [Nixon, Ford, Reagan, GHWB, and GWB]. In collusion with the Congress, they contributed $ 7.7 trillion to the national debt and added 34 million jobs to the workforce. The Democrats were in the White House for twelve years [Carter and Clinton]. The national debt went up by $ 1.7 trillion and 34 million jobs were added in the economy. Reagan and Bush tax cuts for the rich added over $ 6 trillion dollars in national debt without creating any additional middle class jobs. Government controls the corporations in Socialism and corporations control the government in Corporatism. Rupert Murdoch and his ilks now control the so called Free Press, the Supreme Court, the Congress, and the White House. I think we are headed towards the future which would like Pakistan.

From 68-2012 Dems have been in charge of the congress. Note the years when the $12 Trillion deficits grew and then ask why should Dems ever be elected

      • stsintl

If Democrats have been in charge of the Congress over 68-2012, then what is John Boehner doing as the Speaker of the House and stonewalling expiration of TEMPORARY BUSH TAX CUTS for the multi-millionaires? Why have the tax cuts been referred to as Reagan Tax Cuts and G.W. Bush tax cuts? Why the Treasury Secretary, Paul O’Neil, got fired by Dick Cheney when he advised against the massive tax cuts of 2001 for Dick Cheney and his multi-millionaire benefactors?

          • stsintl

By balanced TV networks, do you mean Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh etc., etc. etc.?

          • onedonewong

I certainly don’t mean ABC,NBC, CBS, NPR, MSNBC, CNN or the washpost, NYTimes

          • rustacus21

U mean ‘CORPORATE’ media, don’t U? Conservatives have made sure the NPR (CorpforPublicBroadcasting affiliate) – the sole remaining “independent” mass media voice is underfunded on the 1 hand, then propped up by corporate donations on the other, in order to “conservatize” or water down their reporting so there’s less “truth”, less “facts” & FAR fewer “intellectual” & “knowledgeable” “experts” bringing uncompromised information to the public, in total abdication of the charter of the Constitutional imperative of the American “Press” (or media, in this modern age) being ‘independent’ of “undue influence” by elite individuals or corporations. The few sane Liberal/Progressive voices – in a VAST sea of conservative kook, cranks & manics, are overwhelmed by comparison. The nearly 8-1 ratio of conservative to Liberal/Progressive TV/Radio personalities isn’t for lack of demand – but rather conservative money “POLLUTING” the airwaves w/pure madhouse, lunatic rantings, making conservatives voters behave in a similar fashion – in order to dismiss & forget the ABSOLUTE HORRORS of the 2001-2009 administration & pin its entirety on Prez Obama. THAT’s “STATE-RUN”? Then the State is as kooky as conservatives, would U agree?!

          • onedonewong

NPR is a far far left wing station, its independence is controlled by its communist masters. NPR has always been biased all the Conservatives have asked is that FOX receive the same govt aid that NPR does since its the only conservative balanced TV network. The rest are all part of the Sttate Run Media no different than TV in Cuba , Russia or China.
As for Radio networks their isn’t any demand for left wingnuts. That’s another reason that conservative talk radio owns so much of the airways since liberal TV dominates the free public market.
As for the W years the number of people working during his 2nd term has never been equaled in Barak’s 4 years even after racking up $10 Trillion in new debt

          • rustacus21

… but it’s still needing to pay “tributes” to their CORPORATE sponsors, in the meantime. But I don’t know if anybody told U, but communism is long dead. Corporate, right-wing money controls 90% of American media – the absence of truth, reality & equal representation of BOTH the Left & Right EQUALLY being confirmation of this point. It may look fair to U, but it’s only b/c certain news stories w/Left-SEEMING tilts, based TOTALLY IN REALITY (climate change, income inequality (by demographics), corporate greed & corruption, joblessness (by demographics), HEALTH CARE, etc…) are unable to be ignored the way corporate media has the habit of doing. I would say Diane Rehm, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Mike Papantonio, Jeff Santos & the famous, infamous, even notorious Jim Hightower (who also has a column HERE!) are just a few that are SOMEWHAT in demand & to be quite frank, out-poll rite wing crackpots, even w/out all the corporate $$$ sponsors. How do they do it? Selling AMERICAN PRODUCTS which employ REAL American workers HERE in America!!! The Patriot market is booming – & talk radio & TV which is affiliated there with… By the way, 2/3 of the current debt, that’s W’s, so lets be FAIR. The holdover wars & tax cuts being the majority, are NOT – I repeat – ARE NOT Liberal/Progressive policy initiatives… as U well know…

          • onedonewong

Communism is dead?? better tell that to your messiah he’s 100% a proponent of it. Corporate ownership is in fact in the hands of a few but they exhibit 0 control over the the state run media’s direction. 90+% of the media have said that they are either ultra liberal or socialist.
Sorry $10 Trillion of the debt is ALLLLL Barak. Diahne Dream and No Helmet Shultz out poll right wing media??? Sorry FOX has twice the viewers compared to MSNBC and Conservative radio has 5 times the listeners than the left. And they have to have paid sponsors unlike Dream who is on the taxpayers nickle.

          • rustacus21

… & viewership translates to… what? Those who voted for the last administration? All we Liberal/Progressives get from conservatives is a litany of name calling. Negativity. Unsophisticated hysteria. If there was NOT a conservative occupying the Oval Office from 2001-2009, R U 2 say things would have been still chaotic? & just b/c the 2001-2009 CATASTROPHE ended, it doesn’t mean it’s over. The “OTHER” Great Republican (why does it always have 2 B U conservatives doin THAT!?!?) DEPRESSION, wasn’t over for 12 years! But when we were finally out of it, we didn’t have another economic CRISIS til Reagan-Bush. Clinton comes in, rights the ship & CRASH!!! ANOTHER Republican at it AGAIN!!! Call all the names U want, b/c its obvious conservatives despise Democracy b/c they’re crashing it constantly & can’t even explain why they do it! In the 16th century, the Democratization initiative really began. It took 200 years, but America was born out of it. Conservatives have been trying to destroy it since. It would be nice if U guys had the ability to reason, then U’d understand equality & justice of opportunity is OK if everyone gets some – NOT just the wealthy, elites or corporations. Living in the past – fixating on commie/socialism, isn’t becoming of modern day Americans. PRESIDENT OBAMA, respectfully, is doing Democracy for the benefit of conservatives as well as Liberal/Progressives – if U understand whose still getting rich since 2001 til current. IF U understand THAT!!! He only needs to tailor it so we ALL can get some wealth. Lets talk about THAT next time U’r up… If U’r able…

          • onedonewong

Viewership translates to number of people who watch which is called drum roll Share or popularity….Name calling really who started with the racist epithets why Dem’s no one could criticize the messiah without being labeled a racist.
The depression lasted so log because of FDR, Great Britain was immersed in the same great depression and were fully out in 1938 and it took us 10 more years to be out 1948.
No we have to be thankful that W was in the WH from 2001-2009, if it had been Barak this country wold be rivaling Haiti for wort country in the hemisphere.
Reagn Bush??? Reagan ended the great recession of Jimmy Cater but it only took Reagan 3 years and nowhere the deficit that barak has managed to do while making the economy worse than when he came in.
Barak was a REGISTERED Socialist in the party in the 90’s. Baraks idea of sharing the wealth is taking it from the producers and giving it to those who refused to work and pay taxes

          • rustacus21

Well, I don’t watch network TV, which gives me a pretty good perspective on those who do, as their entire lexicon is completely CONSUMED w/TV language & “LINGO”!!! U therefore understand how boring I find most people who only talk TV when the world is literally in flames all around them – w/out their notice, no less!!! Taking U’r post for instance, I hear nothing but Fox network “language”, but nothing in the way of factual or original thought. Jimmy Carter inherited a recessionary, post-Vietnam war economy. Check U’r facts. Whatever deficit incurred was the results of the economy left – AGAIN – by Republican mismanagement. U go straight to that socialist BS of the 1990’s, so that U don’t have to acknowledge the miraculously expert job on President Bill Clinton did in cleaning up the $trillion mess left – AGAIN – by Reagan-Bush. But the disrespect is only cover – it’s well understood – so conservatives like U don’t have to respond to questions of why, if PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA is such a BAD president, the economy, government or society isn’t worsening as it steadily did w/the 2001-2009 Republican administration conservatives voted mindlessly for. President Obama is a typical Liberal, holding the nation together, in SPITE of Republican sabotage. Remarkably well at that…

          • onedonewong

You don’t watch TV but then you accuse me of nothing but Fox Lingo…. sorry rusty looks like all you info is gleamed form TV and you have never read a book or paper. Carter didn’t inherit anything that wasn’t of his own making run away inflation, gas lines and huge unemployment Reagan inherited his mess and he FIXED it.
Carter had a Democratic house and senate so how did republicans cause him any issues?? Democrats controlled congress from 1960 thur 1980 so all Carter did was inherit a democratic theme of stagflation that they caused.
Clinton had no hand in balancing the budget, you can thank Newt and John Boener for the contract with America that fixes almost 60 years of Democratic malaise.
The economy isn’t worsening?? Really its the worst it has been since the Great Depression and its not getting any better. There are FEWER americans working today than at anytime during W’s 2nd term.
No obama isn’t a typical liberal he’s a consummate Socialist just like Germany was in the 1930’s and 40’s he’s just following the lead of his ultra ego

    • rustacus21

I think I like those Liberal administration job/economic/budget surplus numbers!!! But then again what do I know? I’m just comparing the years each were in office. The media keeps hyping conservative policies that don’t work & voters like Mr “donewong” keep voting Republican & we keep try to get a Clinton & Obama some Congressional & Senate support & conservatives like Mr. ‘donewong’ vote T (for “civic” Terrorists) party & conservatives & things keep going wrong (notice how economic crisis ALWAYS & ONLY happen when Republicans are in the W.H.!!!) & conservatives blame Liberals – AFTER THE FACT – while Liberals are in the MIDDLE of fixing the problem conservative voters failed to notice their CONSERVATIVE rep’s created while conservatives were in office. Lets keep the Liberal/Progressives & better yet, lets help the planet go Democratic, since it works WAY BETTER than authoritarian & quite destructive conservatism…

  • karinursula

I think I’m going to be sick if I read one more time that tax cuts for the rich will
give us more jobs. Apple doesn’t care since they outsource all their jobs to China.
    We cannot vote for Romney

    • onedonewong

I’m going to be sick if I hear more lib talk about exporting jobs over seas and then cry that we need more govt in our lives and more regulation

      • rustacus21

Why was regulation of industry EVER needed in the 1st place? Do U REALLY know? MayB b/c of poison food (see > http://ehdotnet/encyclopedia/article/LawdotFooddotanddotDrugdotRegulation http://wwwdotepadotgov/lawsregs/laws/cwahistorydothtml http://wwwdotcsundotedu/~ghy7463/mw2dothtml <) where workers had no rights & were injured/killed w/out industry being "made" accountable? Then here come conservatives w/this brilliantly "democratic" ideal to ship jobs b/c they have to obey regulations forcing them to treat American workers like human beings in a Democratic civil society; so they take their industries to countries w/NO regulations & treat those workers like slaves, paying pennies/hr & treating them to the barbaric conditions American laws & UNION by-laws prohibited! If more foreign countries we Democratic, would Americans companies be as anxious to export jobs? We Liberal/Progressives will await U'r response here… In the meantime, mayB U'r anticipating a Romney win so the regulations will be completely gone, they U & the rest of us can go back to working in conditions such as those at places like the Triangle Shirtwaist factory, circa 1911. Chinese workers, among other things, are discovering Democracy, so the list of slave-wage destinations is getting ever shorter…

        • onedonewong

Union leaders are the only folks in the US who are exempt from criminal prosecution for their members actions. Unions have killed, bombed, raped workers because they won’t join. There are far far more union abusing workers than businesses…why because the law says they can.
This country is a republic not a democracy, do you think other countries would allow unions to get away with what they do here??
The reason why jobs have bee exported is union wages and regulations. Govt doesn’t create jobs but they sure do eliminate them, they are far too many unelected faceless bureaucrats that have been allowed off the leash and Romney will make them heal. Just today the govt issues a regulation on the slope of the greens on Putt Putt courses yea that’s govt we all can embrace

          • rustacus21

Rather than debate such nonsense, I’ll let U, as I have above, produce confirmation of what U speak of. As much hate as conservatives have 4 the working class & Unions, that sort of news would be all over corporate media. So produce it. & 2 B fair, I’ll search on my own, but B4 hand, why obsess over Unions @all? They’ve provided wonderful, excellent workplace environments for 10’s of millions of America’s hourly workers & the thanx they get from workers? Dividing, bickering & in-fighting over race, why 1 has been promoted over another & how much 1 makes, as compared w/another! If the workplace was NEVER biased against the poor, Women or non-Whites, Unions would NEVER have been necessary. But I’ll meet U back w/in 24 hours w/U’r “evidence”, as well as other crucial regulations – domestic & international, as to how Union membership & regulation overall, has been historically ’embraced’ by corporations…

          • onedonewong

Nonsense look of the Enmons Decision of 1973. Since just 1975 the State Run Media has reported on 12,000 cases of union violence against its members.
Companies provide the the workplace environment. all the unions do is take from the laborers whether they want to belong or not

          • rustacus21

1st off, can U xplain what “Enmons…” has 2 do w/this conversation? Regarding the case itself, the ‘VERY EXPERT’ National Institute for Labor Relations Research “CLEARLY STATES” the ‘12,000’ number U refer to is either ‘FALSE’ on comprehensively lacking in “accuracy…”. Breakers of the law do so @their own risk; here, we’re talking about the same “plants”, “paid” to wreak havoc (the “T” party “organizers”, “swift-boaters” or the protesters disrupting election recounts regularly since the 2000 FL recount) & disrupt civic discourse. This is alot of info 4 U I’m sure, so try & stay w/me: corporations have opposed Unions from the very start. This ‘opposition’ has gone stealth, as U’r inclusion of ‘faux’ info proves; the protection of workers from corporate abuses is the reason 4 their coming into being in the 1st place. Taking early cases of police & hired goons committing aggressions against union members of Blair Mountain coal mines (see > http://wwwdotglendaledotedu/chaparral/apr05/blairdothtm http://labourhistorydotnet/news/i0403_6dotphp http://mydotfiredoglakedotcom/iflizwerequeen/2011/05/25/the-mohawk-valley-formula-a-corporate-plan-for-strike-breaking/ http://cadotlwvdotorg/action/prop0511/prop75dothtml http://wwwdotnewunionismdotnet/library/organizing/Logan%20-%20The%20Union%20Avoidance%20Industry%20in%20the%20United%20States%20-%202006dotpdf <), w/the EXPLICIT effect of hindering, impeding or otherwise preventing actualization of Democracy in the workplace (actual or incidentally "manufactured"), impacting far more workers (10's of millions) than fictional numbers of uncorroborated incidents U listed. U will site examples of U'r own, but workers battling the corporations, police, thugs & courts is, I'd say, pretty 1-sided, against organized Union members. B/c in sum, this breaks down to the perspectives on the expansion of access to Liberty, Democracy, equality & opportunity (Liberal/Progressive) &/or it's shrinking, limiting or direct prevention (conservatives) of Constitutional provisions available to the whole (Liberal/Progressives view) or just a selective "FEW" (conservatives view) Americans, in prosperity access. THIS article says that better than I ever could, but loses its impact w/corporate media (Fox network) 'interpretations' which skewer & fog the issue w/irrelevancies, pitting I & U @odds, 2 the benefit of corporations needing us divided & confused. U & me are on 1 side. The corporations, media & their money the other. U need to decide, per this article, where U STAND in this election year…

          • dtgraham

So, you feel that union leaders are exempt from criminal prosecution if a union member breaks a law on their spare time, but they shouldn’t be exempt because no other organizational leader is exempt in that way. Furthermore, you’re convinced that unions have killed, bombed, and raped workers who won’t join. Have I got all that?

Jesus Christ man. Do you have a brain disease?

          • onedonewong

Another lib who just posts to hear themselves talk. Look up Enman decision by the SC. I’ll accept your apology in advance

          • dtgraham

Enman decision by the SC. You made me read a long court case involving property lines of Enman farms by acquiescence. Do you actually have any examples or court cases demonstrating how labour unions make a habit of bombing, killing, and raping workers who don’t want to join, in an open shop environment?

Maybe you could also elaborate on why you feel that a union exec. should be criminally responsible for the actions of some individual union member, in regards to the common law.

          • onedonewong

If we had a corporative Congress we would have had several million more jobs by now, which would have spread the tax base around a lot more leaving the actual taxes at possibley a lower rate. HOWEVER, and I will likely get sensured for this. The Republican Leadership does not want this they have for decades wanted a more competitive labot pool so that they could drive down wages. They want a deminished economy, to even a point of a third world country so that the “right” people could lord over the rest of us.A major part of their constituency understand this, and to this part of that group thing that when the leadership does finally accomplish this goal, that their loyal followers will be reconised and be part of the Royality. They of course are miss-informed they will end up under the cart like the rest of us. Yes I am preaching doom and gloom, cause Ibelieve that the (not so) right will eventually win. However the country will destroy itself within a decade when it does happen. Other country want the U.S.’s natural riches, and when the masses are no longer represented, they will not stand in someone else’s way, no matter how many guns the NRA helps the manufacturtes sell. But that to will be stopped when the Republican Reigh, takes over cause they won’t want people to be able to stand for their own rights. By the way GArgray, thank you for looking out for my interests, I am a senior citizen, and even with a pension, and the social security, after just the still overrated cost of health insurance, the only time I can afford to take my old lady out to dinner, is when I get to play my horn at the local jazz or blues clubs.

  • Its very easy to understand. The affluent/Wealthy have plenty, enough to always carry them through. The middle class anD working class are hanging on by their finger nails. The Republican, conservative bunch want it their wAY. tHEY WANT TO MAINTAIN THEIR STATUS qUO. mAKES A LOT OF SENSE AND THEY WILL MAINTAIN AT ANYONES EXPENSE. iF sMITT ROMMNEY IS PRESIDENT – WATCH OUT aMERICAN . THINGS ARE GOING TO TAKE A DIVE LIKE YOU CANT BELIEVE

  • oldtack

    Cswinney,

I agree with you on the money part. When the not so supreme court opened the doors to unlimited donations they put their approval stamp on the takeover of America by special interest groups. Right now I feel we are fighting a losing battle but we must continue to fight.

  • 1standlastword

Those of us who know about this–KNOW, because we care and I guess we should be thinking of ways to get rich….and fast LOL!!!

I’m seriously concluding that there is no HONOR left in government. It takes about two years to corrupt a fresh face politician and then we end up with a fresh crop of crooks and whores to VOTE the bums out.

How long can this go on?

  • RodgerMitchell

Paying federal taxes does not stimulate the economy. NOT paying federal taxes does stimulate the economy. Simple Monetary Sovereignty

Not paying taxes = more federal spending, in that the result is the same: More dollars in the economy, which is stimulative.

He, who does not understand Monetary Sovereignty, does not understand economics.

  • Well, first of all. I think the federal government has to raise taxes before they are allowed to start any more foreign wars — it will certainly make them think twice. GW Bush waged 2 wars with nothing to pay for them because he also lowered taxes — really stupid. In fact, Bush did not even put the hugely expensive wars on the books. When Obama took office, he put them on the books, which, of course, dramatically raised the deficit. We’ve got the lowest rate of income tax since 1950. I agree with the author, we have got to raise income taxes — at least on the rich .I also think that we need to close tax loopholes for corporations. Right now, corporations are experiencing record profits, but are they hiring people? Not much. Are these corporations still sending a lot of American jobs overseas — absolutely yes. Obama wants to give corportions that do NOT send jobs overseas a tax incentive — and I agree with that. Income taxes sent to the federal government help pay to keep teachers, firefighters & police officers working (who are the backbone of our society) — they in turn, spend most of their salaries on goods & services, which increases demand. The higher the demand the more likely corporations are going to produce more goods. The more goods that have to be produced means corporations need to hire more people.

  • Romney Only Talking About More Tax Breaks For The wealthy Not The middle Class Nor The Poor Working People But The Wealthy!!! Wake Up America Before It’s To Late !!! Romney Has Line His Staff With George W. Bush Old Staff It Only Means CHAOS!!!

  • It seems to me that his man is so eager to lick the Tea Party’s boots that he’s gone clear over the edge!

  • gargray

Gammaanya great response without public education we would all be slaves to the rich. We cannot let money buy this election or take away our constitution.

  • No new money for the govt? I don’t know & won’t pretend to know about what will happen when the dollar value is so that it won’t buy squat. So do taxes paid off 2 low income jobs = taxes frrom 1 skilled job & it exists in reality. So where does the money come from for the Defense budget so dear to the murdering rascals Repugthugs & Democrats. Of course there are other Secretariats where does their income come from? So where does the money come from?

  • Only one group is crazier than right wing tax cutters. That is the Democrats who rejected the winning formula of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Truman said it best: “In a race between two Republicans, the Republican always wins.”

  • The republicans did not vote for social security or medicare. They have been trying to get rid of it since we got it. They do not want the new healthcare law to stand because they fear people will get used to it and like it. They want to keep talking about “freedom” the code word for “we don’t care about your problems, you are on your own.” They hate the minimum wage, unions, food stamps and medicaid. They do not want to help people with a hand up. However, guess who is at the front of the line for the free stuff! If we let them, we will soon be a 3rd world country, with only the rich and the poor.

  • onedonewong

I’m going to be sick if I read1 more article that says barak is creating jobs and that the economy is rebounding. Barak and his Dem’s have ruined this country enough with amateur hour already

    • Mulligatonney

      Thanks onedone:

I don’t think anyone really believes OBama’s spin doctors – not even his closest disciples. Everyone can see the economy is overburdened and constipated with debt and regulation. When they tell us it is rebounding it’s like telling people jumping over a cliff not to worry because its a much shorter fall since so many bodies have piled up.

The alarming thing about the whole liberal community this election cycle is that it doesn’t seem to matter to the OBamanoids how much they get bombarded with the truth – they still manage to view him as the guy who is brilliant beyond comprehension, but is constantly being thwarted by – well, everyone in the whole world who doesn’t worship him like they do.

      Strangely reminiscent of the 1930’s…

  • rustacus21

Just think of the (Reagan-Bush era) deficit reductions, job creation & education funding that $110,000,000 could have gone 2ward. If that’s fiscally responsible I’d hate to REALLY see their “IRRESPONSIBLE” side (if we think 2001-2009’s Depression-era numbers were bad enuff!!!). Great post, so lets just home we can get come converts between now & November. By comparison, President Obama is looking better by the day!

  • rustacus21

Mr. Tack, I see U’r point but I beg 2 differ; what is wrong is somewhat related to the length of terms in office, but the major problem is still money. As we saw w/the “T” (i.e., civic “Terrorists”) party, coming in w/unrealistic expectation & no sooner were they sworn in that they too began whoring themselves out for donation-favors to the highest bidder. Senator Bernie Sanders is the be case example of a career “REPRESENTATIVE” who has NEVER failed to deliver for his constituents or the American people, either as a Congressman or in his current Senate position. But people need to stop acting dumb & pay attention to what representatives are doing while IN office. Considering the actions of Issa, those are grounds for a recall by his own constituents, as he too, is not a stupid man, but twisted, knowing FULL WELL when “Fast & Furious” began, as “Wide Receiver” was conceived & which administration was responsible. His hate agenda is more than obvious (see > http://wwwdotyoutubedotcom/watch?v=mvBbcA8aBSY <) per some of the hearings so far…

  • rustacus21

U conservatives seem to overlook all kinds of realities; or does Beirut ring any bells? Our military personnel are “U.S. citizens”, whether on domestic or foreign soil, especially when placed unnecessarily in harms way. OK city was committed by the same conservative elements found in Congress & the Senate & was responsible for ensuring a conservative was the winner of the 2000 election, which beings us to another overlooked fact U failed to mention – needless casualties of an irresponsible act of disbanding the surveilance teams tracking those responsible for THE worst attack on American soil (see > http://wwwdotpbsdotorg/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/knew/could/ <), from the 2001-2009 administration… Any guesses on who was in office at THAT time?

  • rustacus21

These 2 commentary’s, from FernW. & Patricia, R stark reminders of what we loose when going ideological. They both got me thinking: the tax cuts were meant to “CREATE” jobs. Since the job market has gotten worse over the whole of the period (’01-’09) the nation has gone in the hole (to roughly 3-5 $trillion), where “DID” all that tax cut cash go? Well, we see it at work in the 2010 midterms, w/ALEC; w/in the Super PAC configuration (the $billions going to contestants for the U.S. presidency – a LIONS SHARE to Romney (i.e., > http://blogsdotwsjdotcom/washwire/2012/06/13/adelson-gives-10-million-to-pro-romney-super-pac/ http://wwwdotusnewsdotcom/news/politics/articles/2012/06/21/obama-faces-growing-gop-super-pac-financial-power-2 <), while the nations infrastructure & job market, R&D & Public Education, continue to suffer due to lack of money in the general economy, via taxes. Understanding a civil society being ABSOLUTELY unable to function w/out taxation, puts conservatives, yet again directly at odds w/our Democratic form of Constitutional governance. If this article doesn't enlighten those who choose cave dwelling over the benefits of "clear daylight" vision, they blind themselves willfully, from seeing (as Patricia says) the connection between jobs, demand & hiring & are victimized by that same blindness (as FernW. states), b/c they can't tell if they're sleeping or awake!!! FranW. says it best in her math calculations: Romney+Bush (staff) = CHAOS! We've tried that road already, so lets stay the 1 we're on & chance it leading back to the Clinton-style "obedient government-peace-prosperity growth model, which works much better than the arbitrary-obstinate-Constitutionally contrary conservative model – whether U'r a conservative voter or not, the logic is clearly unmistakable…

  • rustacus21

… but B4 that, ALL conservatives must be voted out of office & their remnants. Nothing will change as long as conservative are anywhere near our 3 primary branches of government. No conservatives, no chaos. If that’s what U want, Russia & Iran & Syria & Nigeria are always willing to take in haters of true Democracy…

  • rustacus21

To Clarenceswinney: 4 any American that can READ, these numbers are mind-numbing!!! 2 bad not many Americans can play that simplest of games… “CONNECT THE DOTS”… GR8 info here & proof Liberal/Progressives ARE more intelligent…

  • rustacus21

U doom-sayers have been hoping this same thing for years & YEARS!!! Being the problem of what’s wrong w/America, did U not get ANYTHING from the article above? I mean, nothing at ALL?! U’r name really says it all, sadly…

  • rustacus21

To: Mulligatonney – I believe!!! & it’s not spin, but rather slowing the “spin” – as in the whirlpool action of going down the drain, U’r conservative choices of ’00, ’04, ’08 & ’10 put the nation!!! But if U berate the Liberal/Progressive community, surely the conservative community offers superior programs for U, me & ALL other Americans, besides JUST the 1%… Can U share a bit of that w/us here?!

  • rustacus21

TO: onedonewong; I also “ASKED” U to research this, which U obviously didn’t. Nixon’s impact on the nation was to tear it’s very fabric to shreads!!! That means the economy, business, society at large & of course, government. This type of stuff U MUST search out, since HE (Nixon) personally signed the policy to effectively halt Civic’s education from being taught in schools – a fact of which makes U its victim, if U 2 are under 50!!! The TV that I do watch, I don’t have a choice, as Fox is played in bars, lobby’s of business offices, the university lounge (which I request it be CHANGED immediately!!!), or other public places, but I, myself, don’t subscribe to a cable or satellite service. Dems actually controlled congress from the late 40’s or early 50’s til the 1990’s & the period in question is addressed above. If U don’t or haven’t done U’r “HOMEWORK”, this is ALL a waste of time. So turn off the TV awhile & put some time into this if U’r really seriously wanting to ENGAGE HERE!!!
