Amazing how conservatives think a liberal cannot wage and WIN a war. FDR and Woodrow Wilson both did it. Kennedy and Johnson WERE doing it, until Nixon pulled us out of Vietnam. Harry Truman didn’t FINISH in Korea, but at least we didn’t lose there. In Bosnia and Granada Clinton won (and a few other places). Under Reagan, we got our asses kicked in Lebanon, and we engaged in an illegal war in Nicaragua. So far in his presidency, Obama has won in Libya, and the Republicans hate him for and refuse to run the risk of another win in Syria. The only Republican president to actually win a war in the past 100 years has been George H. W. Bush, because he did something his son didn’t – he formed an international coalition and laid out limited objectives. Bush got us into two unwinnable wars. He should have stayed in Afghanistan until the mission was actually accomplished.
Unfortunately, Kennedy and Johnson were NOT winning in Vietnam, because it was unwinnable; we were backing OUR dictator against the dictator the majority of Vietnamese were willing to tolerate, and the “dominoes” did not fall (except Cambodia, which was already in a civil war, but then Vietnam, under communism, cleaned out the Khmer Rouge, but they had as hard a time as we had against them). If it’s any consolation, Eisenhower got us into it as advisors, Johnson stepped it up to get conservative support in Congress for his civil rights and poverty legislation.
Clinton did accomplish something in Bosnia, but Grenada was Ronnie Raygun’s slam dunk easy war. However, the outcome of a war has more to do with the rightness (or perceived rightness) of the cause, and how savvy the army AND the President who do most of the fighting are, than with which party started it.
Sorry, but it is a mixed bag; I wish we had gotten out of Vietnam sooner (some conspiracy theorists say Kennedy was killed because he was about to find a way out, which military people did not want), and I wish Clinton could take credit for Grenada (the island, not Granada, the Spanish palace).
As you indicate with Johnson’s having to step it up to get conservative support, it’s amazing how they will support a big, grandiose battle, like Vietnam, Desert Storm, Normandy Beach, etc. But forget about the humanitarian, or “just” wars. A Republican Congress nixed Clinton’s desires to get into both Rwanda AND Sudan (which, by the way, is still raging), they were vehemently against Libyan involvement or ANY of the Arab Spring conflicts in Northern Africa, and fail to support intervention in Syria. Surprisingly, the conservative Parliament in Britain is not willing to support us, either.
I certainly hope we don’t get caught in another war that can’t be won. If we can’t get the criminals in the ME, then why bomb more women and children?
We have to go kill Syrians because Obozo does not like the way they are killing themselves….. and, more importantly, Obozo loses face, and we CANNOT have that happen.
And now…. The REAL Cartoon Of The Day!
Obozo wants to go in to Syria to kill people because he does not like the way the Syrians are killing people…. clearly!
Have a nice day!
“In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then he made Baroke WhoIsInsane Obozo.” ― Mark Twain, Following the Equator: A Journey Around the World
here’s a red line for ya………..
Talk about painting yourself into a corner…. sheeeshh
“It is just wonderful to be back in Oregon. And over the last 15 months we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states; I think one left to go.” – Baroke WhoIsInsane Obozo May 9, 2008, demonstrating yet again what an idiot he is.
You are truly pathetic!!
Well Obozo, I see you have solved your constipation problem by excrementing through your writing. Once again we must endure the smell.
Nappy…. how come you don’t post under your other alias, jnap, anymore?
Does your mommy know you’re on the computer again?
No but your mother does.
Hey dirtnappy… you know you’ve taken a smack down when you drag the “mother jokes” out of the old dust bin.
What else can we expect from an immature, unemployed little 20 something that still lives at home with mommy who still does his laundry and makes his bed?
Have an infadelcious day, dirtnappy! FYI… You’re better off remaining silent.
“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than speak and remove all doubt.” – Mark Twain
Hey dickhead, You started the Mother jokes. What is the matter assho@ can’t take it? You dish out more shi@ than anyone on any message board but are a wimp aZZ when someone confronts your garbage.
Looks like little boy dirtnappy got his blanky all ruffled. Go cry to your mommy little boy. And then go get job at Burger King and make yourself useful.
Have a nice day, dirtnappy!
why doesn’t he post under “dirtnappy”……
I hope you don’t mind if I use that one with him…. hehehehehe
by all means, use it…and tell him to have an Infadelicious day ..hehehehe
I always loved that quote and it ranks right up there with the time that G.W.H. Bush spoke to a veteran’s group and stated that he was reminded that 50 years ago he was bombing Japanese shipping. OK, that certainly nails down his claim to be the youngest Navy aviator ever since he was about 10 then and also explained why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor a few years later.
Hello Ralphie! I trust you are are doing well these days.
Here’s another one you’ll like….
“It was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There’s a lot of — I don’t know what the term is in Austrian — wheeling and dealing — and, you know, people are pursuing their interests, and everybody has their own particular issues and their own particular politics.” Baroke WhoIsInsane Obozo speaking to an Austrian audience in 2009 and having no clue that they do not speak “Austrian” or that it’s not even a language. Proof that he’s a complete idiot.
And lets not forget honoring the dead veterans on memorial day, many of them he saw in the audience. He is treated as a scholar but he can’t sound intelligent without the telepromptor.Uhm,Ah,Mmm’Er,Duh.
maybe if he’s seeing dead people, a CORPSEman should give him a breathalizer…errr..not a breathalizer..uh uh uh..DUH! .but then again travelling to 57 states can be exhausting….
Spot on Farmer, spot on!!!
Here’s another quote from the idiot in chief…
I think Mark Twain is spinning in his grave so fast he could be generating enough energy to power your whole house, OMG. He doesn’t mind being quoted, but he is absolutely opposed to anyone changing the wording. He told me that one day when we were floating down the Mississippi on a raft, fishing for catfish.
Have a nice weekend, OMG!
In the first place, God made man – where do you fit in? You people love to get into big expensive wars, just not the ones that really do something to help people, or those called “just” wars. We refused to get involved in Rwanda where tens of thousands of civilians were killed by their government because of conservative refusal. Surprisingly, we went into Bosnia for humanitarian reasons, with the acquiescence of a conservative Congress (go figure that one). We have done nothing to end the fighting in Sudan, where as many as a million civilians have been killed by their government, and millions more have flooded their neighboring countries as refugees. We got into Iraq for one reason, and one reason only – OIL. The chemical weapons were used during Iraq’s war with Iran, an event that was ten years in the past when we invaded for that spurious reason. Republicans do not care about humanitarian issues, only about money issues.
I think the best strategy for him is to appear to be gung-ho, as Cameron did, call for a Congressional authorization, and let Congress stop him, as Parliament stopped Cameron. If Congress says OK, and it doesn’t go right,he can point out that Congress said OK; but if it does, he can thank Congress and take joint credit for the success. If Congress says no, he can blame them if the civil war gets worse, and at least he will look belligerent enough to satisfy moderately conservative voters; but if things get better without defying Congress to take action, he can thank Congress for stopping him.
