WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has denounced the deal reached by the United States and other world powers on Iran’s nuclear program by saying President Barack Obama is marching Israelis “to the door of the oven,” a reference to the Holocaust.

The head of the Democratic National Committee on Sunday demanded an apology by Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor whose comments came in an interview with a conservative website on Saturday.

“This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history,” Huckabee told “Breitbart News Saturday.” “It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians. By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”

Huckabee’s reference was to the Nazi death camps where millions of Jews and others were killed during World War Two.

“This is the most idiotic thing, this Iran deal. It should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people. I read the whole deal. We gave away the whole store. It’s got to be stopped,” Huckabee added.

U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, said Huckabee’s rhetoric “has no place in American politics.”

“Cavalier analogies to the Holocaust are unacceptable. Mike Huckabee must apologize to the Jewish community and to the American people for this grossly irresponsible statement,” Wasserman Schultz said in a statement.

Many U.S. Republicans have come out strongly against the July 14 accord aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear program in return for easing economic sanctions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has cultivated a close relationship with U.S. Republicans, has called the deal a threat to the survival of Israel. Netanyahu has urged U.S. lawmakers to reject a deal he said would only feed an “Iranian terror machine” and would give Tehran “a sure path to nuclear weapons.”

Huckabee is seeking his party’s nomination for president in the November 2016 U.S. election. A CNN/ORC poll released on Sunday showed him in 7th place with the support of 5 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters.

There are 16 declared Republican candidates so far.

Huckabee in spite of his display of ignorance has to realize that other nations are involved in the negotiations that led to this tentative agreement and not only the President. The advantages/disadvantages of the plan for the nations involved will be a matter of rational debate in the future. But inflammatory rhetoric from the likes of a right wing advocate adds nothing of value except to demean the President’s effort to reduce nuclear proliferation. Huckabee may be a master of fire and brimstone in his fantasy world, but his comment has no place in a meaningful discussion of the topic. What a charlatan!

I can’t tell if this kind of hyperbole is the result of our political dysfunction, or partly a cause of it

My guess would be that it’s both. Weighted to some degree to being more the cause of our political dysfunction – by the willingness of, especially Republicans, to make outlandish politically motivated assertions such as Huckabee has just made – clearly with the misguided attempt on his part, of trying to enhance his appeal to a very, also misguided, GOP electoral base.

I’m reminded of a quote from asimov: “democracy is not the same as saying my ignorance is as good as your knowledge”

Only a very desperate, or very ignorant, presidential candidate to the presidency can refer to a nuclear weapons containment agreement as sending Israelis to the Door of the Oven. I disagree with just about everything this man says, but even I expected better from him. I understand that the outcome of the nomination process depends largely on the attention – and funding – that each candidate gets, but using hyperbole and distortion to accomplish his political objectives is not the way to go, particularly when an incumbent President is visiting foreign countries and being welcomed like a hero and a statesman. Something that the likes of Huckabee will never achieve.

I htink that Joe Lieberman wrote that for Huckabee to say.

With this Agreement, Obomo has even surpassed his own high water mark for ignorance when he supplied guns to Mexican drug dealers. The ragheads are going to want to annihilate the Jews and, thanks to the 150 billion dollars released to them, they will buy ICBM technology from the Russians to threaten us. Ah yes, “the sweetest music” to Obomo’s ears…

Sorry, there you go again distorting the truth. It was the Bush Administration that concocted the idea and set up what turned out to be ‘fast and furious’. And just like every other ‘fake scandal’ that Darrel Issa concocted, despite having spent, or required the need to spend in his often outlandish requests for information (some bordering on exposing what is classified secret information more than 100 million dollars, he was never ever able to prove any wrong doing.

Just like also with the Solyndra fake scandal. A company who was initially vetted and provided with loan guarantees by the Bush Administration back in 2007, and who’s request for additional monies was waiting for Obama on Bush’s desk when he took office.

Whose bankruptcy had nothing to do with any mishandling of the vetting process, but rather competitive circumstances. Because companies like Bain Capital, had leverage bought out a company like Solyndra that made solar panels, destroyed the company in America and shipped not only its jobs but the American know-how of how to build effective solar panels, by the time Solyndra’s loans were approved, a Chinese company had been created started flooding the U.S. market with panels so cheap that Soyndra could not compete because of, at the time, the cheap Chinese labor.

With all the people who have no filters in their mouths, Huckabee is leading them all.

Would somebody please hand that idiot another shovel. Maybe one with a shaper point so he can dig an even bigger hole.
