GOP Consultant: Koch Brothers Bought Ryan’s Nomination With $100 Million Promise

Veteran Republican political consultant, unrepentant dirty trickster, and recently reborn libertarian Roger Stone yesterday published a startling accusation against Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney on his personal website, The Stone Zone. According to Stone, the billionaire Koch brothers purchased the Republican vice presidential nomination for Ryan from Romney in late July by promising to fork over an additional $100 million toward “independent expenditure” campaigning for the GOP ticket.

Any such transaction would represent a serious violation of federal election laws and perhaps other statutes, aside from the ethical and character implications for all concerned. Although Stone is not the most reputable figure, to put it mildly, he has been a Republican insider, with access to the party’s top figures, over four decades. His credentials date back to Nixon’s Committee to Reelect The President and continue through the Reagan White House, the hard-fought Bush campaigns, and the Florida fiasco in 2000, when he masterminded the “Brooks Brothers riot” that shut down the Bush-Gore recount in Miami-Dade. Peruse his site and you’ll see his greatest hits and the attention he has drawn from major publications.

I’ve known Roger personally for years and always considered him intelligent and amusing; also extremely dangerous and even erratic. Sometimes I’ve been surprised by how much he knows about the inner-most workings of his party – even when he is clearly persona non grata among the current power elite.

The Koch brothers, and the Tea Party, own and control the GOP. The party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower and Reagan is now controlled by external elements, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Paul Ryan and the rest of right wing extremists willing to guarantee their masters ability to continue to accumulate wealth. The GOP is no longer the party that gave us the emancipation of slavery, the party of Teddy Roosevelt, a great environmentalist, the party of Ike, the man responsible for the national highway system, or even the party of Reagan, a man determined to protect what he called the “safety net”. The GOP has been reduce to a party whose focus is helping the rich get richer, at the expense of the middle class and the poor; it is a party determined to remove every regulation to make it easier for corporations to exceed shareholder expectations, even if that means destroying our patrimony and our heritage. In summary, it is a party determined to destroy our way of life and compromise our national security if that is what it takes to stay in power and make a buck.

    1. Karla Brummer Tildahl August 18, 2012

Dominick you should run for president. Your thoughts and comments are so intelligent and you have the best interests for our country in mind in all your statements! I really enjoy reading what you have to say.

    2. daniel bostdorf August 18, 2012

Conason’s article is a stark reminder of what can happen when billionaires, multimational companies and hate filled propagadndists formally join alliances with each other.

It happened in pre-Nazis Germany in 1934 when the demoralized post WW1 disgraced German people faced similar socio-economic and fascist forces that led to the rise and fall of the Nazis Party led by Adolph Hitler.

Dominick Vila correctly reminds us of this lesson of history. And warns us not to repeat this history.

Romney/RYan/Koch/Rove and FOX news practices the demogoguery of the Nazis mindset, in my opinion.

      1. George Wilson August 18, 2012

There are troubling elements of fascism in the New Republican ethos, and in fact I’ve encountered some links actively detailing its resemblance to Hannah Arendt’s phases and characteristics of a fascist program. Although the Nazis, partly due to their perpetration of the most expansive genocide documented by modern technology, are the de facto fascists for many people in the Anglo-American and European world, I think the Republican style we’ve seen in recent years is closer in form and approach to the other two Axis powers or even some of the Latin American caudillos that both inspired and drew from Mussolini’s lead.

The Nazis’ diffuse Nordic cult took precedence over begrudging endorsement of Christianity (albeit with a vicious hostility toward conscientious objectors like Mennonites and Jehovah’s Witnesses and ferocious retaliation against resistors like some of the nuns or Lutheran pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer). However, the Italian regime made heavy use of the existing Catholic infrastructure, intimidating the conflicted Pope and getting Opus Dei to help spread propaganda keyed to the Church’s ancient Roman heritage that Mussolini saw as his regime’s inspiration (as in their symbol of the fasces, a Roman implement of agriculture and torture). This fits better with the Radical Right’s alliance with evangelical megachurches and televangelists who can deliver propaganda and rake in lucre at the same time, all in the alleged name of a certain Roman-era outcast-lover who warned of false prophets and moneychangers crowding the temple. As alluded to above, Mussolini read a Venezuelan dictator’s manifesto and called it a favorite of his, and the likes of Trujillo, Pinochet, and the Argentine and Brazilian juntas would apply similar tactics to make use of their own Catholic bureaucracies, making sure to slaughter any clerics with too much of a conscience to acquiesce.

The Nazis also had something of which the Tea Party in particular and even the well-organized New Right in general is very leery, in part due to their “big-government” anxieties–a single charismatic dictator. Ryan and Gingrich may be talented rabble-rousers, but the wonks like Rove, the Kochs, or Wolfowitz, let alone Romney who they’ve settled for, have nowhere near the oratorical heft and mass appeal that allowed Hitler to ensnare millions in favor and/or terrified awe of his ghastly designs. When it came right down to it, no one strongman (or strongwoman a la Bachmann or Palin) could unite enough primary voters to defeat Romney in time, because the movement’s strongest ideologues and supporters would rather a leaderless clique take power. 1930s Japan, however, with a Confucian-influenced Asian culture that emphasized the group over the individual and a long tradition of leadership by political and business oligarchs (genrō, who were the real power behind the Meiji emperors’ overthrow of the Tokugawa shogun and his samurai retainers), pioneered the concept of fascism by committee. Although there were prominent philosophers like imperialist veteran Kita Ikki that promoted the militarization of society, and though Prime Minister Fumimaro Konoe and Admiral Hideki Tōjō did hold certain government positions as they took advantage of the young Hirohito’s immaturity, nobody ever really became the one dictator. However, still present are the classic fascist hallmarks of fascist ideology, including elevation of traditional social patterns as the bulwark against modernization or reforms (there bushido and State Shinto, here “family values” and fundamentalist Christianity), aggressive militarism to protect an aggrandized (and capitalist-driven) version of national interests (there liberating–read colonizing–European territories in Asia to seize strategic oil and rubber, here fighting preemptive wars to keep backers’ oil concessions running smoothly), and a mix of intimidation and bureaucratic repression to silence critics (there terrorist campaigns against leftist politicians and encouragement of a culture in which even one’s own dissident relatives were to be reported; here promotion of “second-amendment remedies,” target imagery used against political rivals, and using near-nonexistent in-person voter fraud as an excuse to inconvenience and thereby potentially franchise millions in likely Democratic voting blocs that possibly lack the necessary ID).

        1. EileenT51 August 19, 2012

As I was reading your comments, I kept thinking back to the article below from the National Catholic Reporter and it scared the crap out of me – Who goes to South American dictators for funding??? Really tired, as are everyone else of the bully intimidation act, especially from the morons who don’t even know that Teddy Roosevelt who fought for anti-trust laws, was Republican and just the stupid lies – don’t reply to them more than once because they are not worth the energy.

“But let’s not stop there. Obama does not financially profit from the abortion industry. Romney does. Bain Capital, in the time Romney was listed as its legal head and even when he was attending Bain board meetings, was an owner of Stericycle, a major disposer of the dead bodies of aborted children in the United States. (See: Romney Invested in Medical-Waste Firm That Disposed of Aborted Fetuses, Government Documents Show.) Bain owned a share of Stericycle until 2004, selling its interest for a profit in the tens of millions of dollars. We can parse what Romney’s 1999 “retroactive retirement” from Bain means, but he still gets an annual payout from the firm. To the extent those dollars are part of Bain’s Stericycle profits, a strong argument exists that Romney is an abortion profiteer. How pro-life is that?
And it has long been known that millions of Bain Capital’s original outside funding, solicited by Romney himself, came from wealthy El Salvadorian clans, some of whom, while they were funding Bain, were “linked to right wing death squads.” (Salt Lake Tribune, 1999; See also: Mitt Romney Started Bain Capital With Money From Families Tied To Death Squads.) Death squads killed tens of thousands of mostly poor people in El Salvador. They also killed priests, nuns and Archbishop Oscar Romero. How pro-life is that? How pro-life is taking the money of these people and doubling or tripling it for them? And did any of their Bain profits fund more death squads? Before we endorse Romney’s “pro-life” claims, isn’t it important for us to know that?”

          1. John Balzer August 19, 2012

Eileen, pegging that rap on Romney is a bit of a stretch but nevertheless noteable. Of greater significance to me is that Roger Stone has never been shown to be wrong about any of his political prognostications. He never warmed up to “W” and his defection from the GOP shows he seeks something better for America’s future. Gary Johnson will be receiving a boost in the polls come August 30th after virtually all Ron Paul supporters go his way. When Gary Johnson gets up on the debate stage with Romney and Obama, it will certainly shake up America. Gary Johnson’s common sense ideas will resonate with both the GOP and the DEMs and all bets are off.

          2. flued August 23, 2012

Good, I hope he does a Ross Perot on Romney, not that Obama will need it. It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas for the Dems, regardless of the millions of dollars being thrown out by conservatives.

      2. onedonewong August 18, 2012

Ahh but you forgot that Hitler was a socialist and barak has often said that he wants to place the US on the same footing as Germany in the 1930’s and 40’s

        1. stephen August 18, 2012

You liar, he never said anything like that.

          1. onedonewong August 18, 2012

Go back to the 1990’s and see what he had to say at the socialists meetings. Remember he was a card carrying socialist

          2. paulbobtom2012 August 19, 2012

This onedonewong is probably bought and paid for by the Koch brothers. It’s the new strategy of saying that someone is guilty of something unless they can prove otherwise. Once again, you made the allegation, so you are required to show some sort of proof, otherwise, you are dismissed. “Go back to the 1990s”…. maybe in a time machine? “See what he had to say at the socialist meetings”. What meetings? What, do you have the transcripts? Maybe videos? Let me guess, suppressed by the “lame stream” media? Are you in 6th grade? Maybe while we’re in the time machine we’ll see if he was really born in the US, or if he was really born at all. “Remember” he was a card carrying socialist? Remember? You obviously don’t know the meaning of the word “remember.” What if I say, “Remember, Mitt Romney smoked crack and was married to a man. He was a card carrying homosexual. Go back and see what he did at that man’s home! Remember. He smoked crack and was gay. ” How does that logic work now?

          3. onedonewong August 19, 2012

You mean like Sen Reid??? No the State Run Media has never been interested in looking into barak’s background. The State Run Media has investigated Romney back to his days in kindergarten yet no background info on Barak.
Just like his mentor Adolf both men sealed their personal records and spent millions to insure they would never be opened while they were alive.
We do know that Barak smoked cracked and is bisexual even he admitted it just ask Mr Sinclair

        2. Creole98 August 18, 2012

You really need to stop smoking crack because it makes you sound really stupid when you start quoting things that were never said by any sitting American President! As usual, you guys just make things up!

          1. onedonewong August 18, 2012

We agree Barak has never worked he’s a sitting president work is a 4 letter word in his mind.
Are you contending that Barak wasn’t a card carrying Socialist??/

          2. awakenaustin August 19, 2012

Yes, I am contending that the President was never acard carrying socialist. What ever that might be. This card carrying drival is just a repeat of the fifties silliness where clowns of your ilkused to call anyone tothe left of Atilla the Hun of being a card carrying commie.
It must be really miserable there in your small narrow workd.

          3. onedonewong August 19, 2012

Then your a fool a simple Google search would have helped you prior to posting nonsense.

Yes it is miserable in my world right now with amateur in the WH and the damage he has done to this country. Thank goodness come NOV this nightmare will be over

          4. Warren Nicholson August 19, 2012

Hi sock puppet, why don’t you change your name to tostupidtobewright.

          5. onedonewong August 19, 2012

Typical lib when you can’t argue a point post jibberish…you got nothing

          6. pogomcl September 14, 2012

no– VacuumTube is more like it

        3. Karen Brown August 18, 2012

*chuckle* You do know that just because the party name was National Socialist Party, it has about as much to do with Socialism as ‘Christian Identity’ has with actual Christianity? Hitler added that word in because the philosophy was popular, then the first thing (yeah, before he took away those guns, but that’s another urban myth) was to disband the unions. That’s so, SO socialist. And please cite where Obama said that, and some Rightwing blowhard saying so is not a valid proof, btw.

          1. onedonewong August 18, 2012

Thanks for the history rewrite What part of National Socialist Party don’t you understand. What part of baraks background in the 90’s don’t you understand when he was a card carrying member of the Socialist party

          2. awakenaustin August 19, 2012

She’s right and you are wrong. Only those who wilfully distort history suggest that Hitler was a socialist. Nazism was a version of fascism pure and simple.
The Obama card carrying business is fantasy spread by the same folks who still say he wasn’t born in the U.S.
One can certainly have valid disagreements with his policies and opinions, but most of what you offer is simply twaddle and ranting>

          3. onedonewong August 19, 2012

What part of National Socialist Party don’t you understand??? Just because you are trying to put lipstick on a pig doesn’t change Hitler’s party and his and Barak’s political beliefs.
presidential convention His name appears as a speaker at both the 1992 and 1996 socialist parties conventions.
I realize that he’s your Messiah but that doesn’t cahnge his past

          4. pogomcl September 14, 2012

can I tell you–you don’t know crap about what you’re saying. it’s just memorized talking points from reading too much inflammatory propaganda. I live where people got sent to death camps. I know survivors of Nazi concentration camps… you don’t know nuthin.

it’s because of people like you that Charlie Chaplin was forced out of the US, but actually Chaplin was very strong loyalist to US and raised the most in war bonds of any single person and yet hounded out by McCarthyism for “socialist ties”…and you stink just exactly like this. While sitting about proclaiming your divine rights as so-called American, you defame others and spread libel and feed on paranoia and are the new McCarthyism.

being a socialist any day is a whole lot better than shitting on your neighbor and being a McCarthyite and coming up with ridiculous allegations and false correlations

          5. onedonewong September 14, 2012

You live where people got sent to death camps??? You mean the ones that refused to fight for their own freedom. The folks you know were losers who then came to this country to live off the goodwill of americans.
Charlie Chaplin was a communist and was a proud member, you can’t be a communist and pro USA they don’t mesh.
Being a socialist is some how good but you refuse to see the obama plan for america and Hitlers plan for Germany?? Barak has his demorat party pass an amendment to the Defense bill in 2010 that allowed for the indefinite imprisonment of all americans with out charges no different than Hitlers SS. With Holder as AG its no different than Goebbels and Eichmann. All 3 believe the laws of their countries don’t apply to them

          6. Karen Brown August 20, 2012

Then if he was a ‘card carrying’ member of the Socialist Party, (which is NOT the same as the ‘National Socialist Party’ any more than the Christian Identity movement is the same as Christian Science, just because the word ‘Christian’ is in both), then that should be easy to prove through a valid objective source. (And that is not, btw, the speculative rantings of a RW blogger or Fox talking head, just so’s you know.) I await your documentation.

          7. onedonewong August 20, 2012

Just look at his speeches at the Socialist Party Presidential Convention were he spoke in 1992 and 1996. Both the German socialist party that Hitler founded is tied at the Hip with the one that barak belongs to.
They both hate Jews, and both want to overturn the existing govt. Hitler used the brown shirts and SS Barak is using the DEA and FBI along with Homeland security to keep the population under their control.
Both refused any dissent using the State Run Media to do their bidding

          8. evenstevens September 28, 2012

“State run media?!!” What state exactly is that?
Must be the Republican Facist Party, because it is obviously weighted heavily that way.
It is a product of conglomeration and essentially a monopolizing trust held by a few wealthy. As the US military teaches, the first goal towards overthrowing a people is control of the media.
Look at the 1933 coup attempt. It was headed by Prescott Bush, W’s Grandfather. It was the typical scenario that has played out to fruition with Musolini in Italy and in many other less recognised takeovers all over the world. In the US, we had a loyal General who informed on the conspiritors. That is why the 1933 coup was thwarted. Facist coups by definition are headed by wealthy people who have become powerful enough to carry them out.
In 1933, there was no substancial private army to facilitate a coup, but today there is. The size of the private army based in the US is information that eludes me, however, it is common knowledge that US troops are paid much more for serving as “private contractors” after discharge from active duty. Why would “Dubya” bring in a private army and fund that presence up in US usage to the level where it has become a force we now are forced to depend on for the security of our own troops?
We have a media giant that is so disposed to Republican views that our democratic neighbor and consistant military ally, Canada, has outlawed Fox “news” from broadcast in their country as a broadcaster of falsehoods, and a standing private army of unknown strength more or less controlled and certainly promoted by Dick Cheney.
Prescott B. and the Koch Bros. father were instrumental allies to Hitler and if their sons and grandsons were to attempt a coup, it is not hard to imagine they would be cautious not to employ US Generals, given the 1933 failure.
In light of the standard procedure where Facists orchestrate coups and the history of families whose members repeatedly have been involved, it seems like a delirium has got hold of half the electorate that holds with the idea that the wealth of the wealthy should be not only preserved, but elevated through preferential tax policies and the (market) freedom to monopolize vital comodities and take over government services.
Wealth and high opulence are not a problem, but when fortunes are extracted from a country to the level of a few single persons in charge of the majority of strategic resources, a mainstream political propaganda outlet, most of the manufacturing capacity, and most ominously, a secretive standing army that answers not to the Commander in Chief, but to an individual, the country is standing on thin ice and suceptible to Facist overthrow by the actors of the same description and family lines who have succeeded in many coups. These people, by long standing policy, have no less than dictatorship over the entire world as their never ending desire. The Republican Party is their political wing and the Democratic Party is their enemy. The difference is obvious and consistantly demonstrated.

          9. onedonewong September 29, 2012

The 1933 coup reallly was that before or after the aliens abducted you?? Why did you change the topic from socialists to fascists?? Are you ashamed that barak and Hitler were both socialists and that barak has said that hitler was the smartest man in the 20th cnetury??Tax policies are an issue?? Lets see barak cries and whines about everyone paying their “fair” share and yet his income tax rate of 19% is far less than his secretaries. WHY is that?? He has 0 personal exemptions and still pays less than 20%.
Romney on the other hand with charitable deductions pays twice what barak does yet once again the state run media refuses to publish those facts.
The media at one time in our history was relatively unbiased but beginning in the 60’s with Walter Cronkite the media became an arm of the democratic party and it gets worse every year.
That’s why if you turn on the nightly news ABC,NBC, CBS, PBS, all have the exact same line up of stories in the exact same order and the spin from the WH. Those 4 station and the NYT and WashPost meet every morning with the WH press secretary to determine the news stories of the day and the WH spin. 80% of the american pubic realize that the state run media is a front for the WH. You must fall in the 20% that are called no nothings

          10. pogomcl September 14, 2012

it’s perfectly legal to be a card-carrying communist or socialist in the US. guaranteed constitutional right.

          11. onedonewong September 14, 2012

what article is that in the constitution??

        4. jebediah123 August 18, 2012

Where the hell did you come up with that??

          1. onedonewong August 18, 2012

Google his speeches in 1992 and 1996 to the National Socialist Party when they were deciding on their candidate

          2. BDD1951 August 19, 2012

Probably from bogus emails. People like ODW want to believe these things so they quote them.

        5. Joan Maurer August 19, 2012

“Ofton said” – who the f are you kidding? And, Barak , like you know the President. I have looked it up – there is no documentation of the President saying he wants the US to be like Germany under Hitler. No ofton said, no even said once! Hitler was not a socialist – he was a physchopath and the two concepts are mutually exclusive.

What makes the right think they can get away with out and out lies; Fox News?

          1. onedonewong August 19, 2012

You only need to go to the Socialist Party Presidential Convention and see his words. Hitler was a psychopath like every other socialist including barak. Just look at the commonality of their agenda
Hitler sealed all his personal records ditto for barak
Hitler believed in anarchy, barak’s best fried was an anarchist
Hitler rewrote any law he didn’t like, Barak has rewritten any law he doesn’t like
Hitler surrounded himself with thugs, barak surrounds himself with thugs
Hitler hated Jews, Barak hates Jews
Hitler got rich off the govt, barak got rich off the government
            Need I go on???

          2. DurdyDawg August 22, 2012

Well them this should answer the other side of that coin onedungwrong..

        6. politicalhack1 August 19, 2012

Hitler was socialist in name only. The title of Democratic Socialism is used for various political persuasions around the world. In Germany, it was a conglomeration of racist, authoritarian, and national views.

At no time, unless voiced by extremists, is there any record of President Obama wanting the same footing as Germany in the 1930s and 1940s.
That kind of statement would have to be ridiculous……would he want the U.S. to be the same as Germany climbing out of the national shame of the Weimar Republic. Or how would he possibly want the US to return to its racist depths, or worse, as Germany did in the forties.

Your statement shows a total lack of perspective and probable indication that you listen to extremist crap, rather than reasonable political analysis.

          1. onedonewong August 19, 2012

Obama is an american in name only.your point??? Obama’s defination of socialism is identical to Hitlers racist, authoritarian and national views. show any example where Barak diverges from Hiters agenda?
Obama’s direction for the economy is also identical to hitlers while Hitler blamed Jews for all of Germany’s ills and Barak has simerly blamed W and the republicans for this countries ills and refuses to place the blame where it belongs himself and the Democratic party.
My statement is an accurate reflection on barak’s agenda for this country, just like Germans in the 30’s you refused to concede the emperor is obsessed

        7. politicalhack1 August 19, 2012

Hitler was a socialist in name only. National Socialist Parties are found throughout the world, and they mean different things in different societies.
In Germany, it was a combination of racist, authoritarian, and national priorities.

How could President Obama possibly want the U.S. to be like Germany of the thirties, climbing out of the shame of the Wiemar Republic and reasserting its imperialism. How could he possibly want the United States to fall to the racist excesses of Germany of the 1940s.

I think that you revert to unthoughtful name-calling and listen to extremist views rather than reasoned political analysis.
Why dont you try to respond to the article itself, which addressed the possible plutocratization of the U.S. (depending on the veracity of Roger Stone)

          1. onedonewong August 19, 2012

Hitler sealed all of his personal records and only a few came out in the ensuing years…barak emulates his style.
Hitler hated communists and Jews and idolized socialists. Barak wants the same thing i the US a master race made up of blacks just like Hitler did about his master race.
Responded to the validity of the story with a counterpoint about Barak’s parallel universe.

        8. Carly Malcolm Henderson August 19, 2012

          He did? Prove that please.

          1. Dominick Vila August 19, 2012

One of the initial strategies used by Hitler, and the Fascist movement, was to spread the myth of Jewish Bolshevism, and use it as a tool to attack both communists and the Jewish people. Fascists used the works of Tolstoy and Trotsky as evidence to link the Jewish people, who had been a target of the Russian Czars, to communism and then used it a justification to attack both. The attempts by our right wing to link Hitler to socialism is contradicted by the evidence of historical proof, and an oveert attempt to deflect attention from their Fascist leanings.

          2. onedonewong August 19, 2012

Read his speeches from the Socialist Presidential Conventions

        9. Curtis Lester August 19, 2012

Hitler was no Socialist. He went after the socialist.

          1. onedonewong August 19, 2012

No he was anti communists and jews

        10. Ryan Stacy August 19, 2012

Hitler was a “national socialist” in the same way that North Korea is a “democratic republic.” He used the term “national socialism” in a way far removed from its Marxist/communist associations, and even denounced the fact that the term “socialism” was being used (incorrectly, he believed) to describe what we would call socialism today. I won’t go into how asinine it would be for a black American president to express admiration for an anti-black political regime (citation, please). Really, do we have to go over this again?

          1. onedonewong August 19, 2012

And that Barak is an American??? Your ignoring baraks speeches at the Socialist Presidential Conventions where he lionized Hitler. His agenda is to elevate blacks to national prominence

        11. Fred Sokolow August 19, 2012

Hitler was not a socialist. Read any impartial source on the subject. Fascism is not socialism. Hitler was an enemy of socialism and communism, he hated it. Read about it…Fascism is a melding of the military, govt. and big private corporations. Socialism doesn’t include big private corporations

          1. onedonewong August 19, 2012

The impartial sources that you lean on valued socialism ad communism hence their vitriolic defense . Hitler’s party was the National Socialist Party its not hard to understand place your finger under the 3 words and sound them out

        12. highpckts August 19, 2012

To paraphase this: “I knew Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was a friend of mine. Barrack Obama, you’re no Adolf Hitler” Let’s get real. The issue here is how might Gary Johnson be a spoiler in the 2012 election. Polling indicates that he will garner votes from both major parties nearly equally. We will just have to wait and see.

Wanna meet me out back so we can straighten this out?

“use to whites” I’ve never used a white, whatever that means. Perhaps you meant ‘accustomed to.’

You are hilarious. I’m not a blah person, I’m anglo (that means caucasian,) I have built many businesses in my life, some failed, some succeeded beyond my wildest expectations. Never got a food stamp. Am a queen, but never on welfare.

If I am correct in my assumptions all I am going to say is that you are entitled to your opinion, just don’t count on me to join you on your naenderthal crusade.

Martin….I have a picture for you it is at the bottom. for you take a good look at. Onedonewrong….Your name befits you…the GOP has done you so much wrong.
The two of you may want to consider this …the GOP you may have known in the past is not the GOP of now. They used to try and sell themselves as the “Traditional Family Values” guys…Santorum tried, he only got so far. NO, behind the scenes running the whole show are nutsy Tea Party and FLAT out GREEDY F**ks. I’ll make my case in TWO WORDS…………LIZ CHENEY. Twlelve years ago she is somewhat of an embarrasment to DICK CHENEY, as an “out of the closet” Lesbian.. and he a leader of the GOP. But the outrageous tax breaks for the RICH, like $77K for a dancing horse….etc., adnauseum. And the fact that he helps set her up as the owner of the ONLY cleaning company in IRAQ that our troops were forced to use, just like the Halliburton/KBR no bid contracts, in a war looking for non-existant WMD’s paying huge contracts putting us deeper and deeper and deeper in debt. But making huge profits for Corporations that can get on board with CHENEY tactics and tax breaks and here we are. ONLY now….Lezbian CHENEY is a top GOP and DICK he is waiting in the wings hoping for ROMNEY to get POTUS and he can send troops to IRAN. That would be a pretty slick thing for a couple of draft-dodgers like DICK and WILLARD to pull it off…all the while selling you the “PATRIOTIC” crap they were never willing to defend themselves…..”WE the PEOPLE” those of us who have worn the uniforms of our country, proudly defending the U.S. against enemies foreign and domestic, are waking up….time to rise against the PLUTOCRATIC domestic terrorist that put the common GOP followers locked in FEAR….

    4. sigrid28 August 18, 2012

There was a detailed account on Alternet a week ago, after his nomination, listing Paul Ryan’s indebtedness to the Koch brothers: their contributions to his campaigns, his appearances at AFP events, Ryan’s voting record in service of their interests, etc. At that time, it seemed pretty clear that Paul Ryan was their “creature,” somehow put on the ticket to do the bidding of the Koch brothers. Additional confirmation in Joe Conason’s sharp piece about claims by Roger Stone ratchets down my despair even further: Mitt Romney is probably also a “creature” of the Koch brothers, serving their interests now and if he is elected to office.

“Everybody has to serve somebody,” as the Bob Dylan song goes. Caregivers for the sick and disabled give up everything out of devotion and the desire to be helpful. Young Olympic athletes like Gabby Douglas must serve their sport, to the exclusion of other interests, and even have to give up being at home in order to achieve their goals. The families of these athletes go into debt to support their training. Service men and women overseas sacrifice family life, sometimes giving their lives or losing a limb, to serve their country. The President of the United States and the First Family give up just about every shred of privacy and a good deal of safety to serve the country as well as they can and as they see fit, to the upmost of their abilities. If “everybody has to serve somebody,” this is what we expect of the presidency: service to the United States not to the interests of the Koch brothers.

Ryan’s pick makes this compact of the presidency in service to the United States look about to be broken. Inexperience and ambition almost explains Ryan’s abject subservience to the Koch brothers and their millions. The rest of the explanation is out of a Greek tragedy.

What baffles me is what the Koch brothers have on an independently super wealthy, already incredibly successful, devout Mormon like Mitt Romney, with an exquisite family and a devoted wife with a chronic disability deserving of his full attention–Romney could, if he wanted, never run for president and still be amply fulfilled in his lifetime. Does Romney crave the trophy of the presidency so much he will become subservient to people who appear to be his inferiors in almost every respect: the Koch brothers, who won’t go to as much trouble as he has to be in power; Big Oil, still mopping up from last summer’s fiasco; the far-right wing of the Republican Party, with its misogyny, bigotry, and contempt for the poor; misguided Tea Party members in their goofy hats, primed to vote away the Social Security checks and Medicare coverage they depend on; the disgraced neo-Cons, with their failed foreign policy; and for a running mate, a congressman also beholden to the Koch brothers, with flaky theories and plans that fall apart when you try to run the numbers on them. Stop and think. If you had Mitt Romney’s life, why not just walk away from this unholy alliance instead of submitting to its corruption and perfidy? This is why I ask: What do the Koch brothers have on Romney?

      1. Dominick Vila August 18, 2012

I have the feeling that if the unthinkable happens Mitt Romney will be a figure head, and the real power behind policy making will be Paul Ryan which, by default, means the Koch brothers and Las Vegas gamblers will be running the country

        1. sigrid28 August 18, 2012

But why would Mitt Romney choose to go down in infamy when he could easily side-step the whole debacle and escape with his accomplishments at Bain, with his contribution to the Olympics, with his public service as governor of Massachusetts, and with his service as a Bishop within the Mormon church? The risk of the scenario you set out is dire for him, even if he is just a figure head. Even losing the election doesn’t seem to have so many upsides for Romney as it does for Ryan. To my mind, Romney’s choices seem so counter-intuitive, so potentially self-destructive to his reputation and to his very well-being, and so dangerous to the America he likes to sing about, that I just don’t get it. Why would he take such grave risks for himself, for his family, and for the country?

          1. Carly Malcolm Henderson August 19, 2012

It’s the same thing as Bush Jr. It’s deep in their psychology, the son trying to show Daddy that he’s a Man.

        1. Karen Brown August 18, 2012

Oh, Good lord, using the documents that Michelle Bachmann used for her case, you do realize that Ronald Reagan and Grover Norquist would be considered ‘Mooslim’ Brotherhood collaborators. But keep ’em coming, just makes your party sound like lunatics and scares away the moderates. *grin*

You need to expand your horizons. I have been a republican for 30 years and nobody owns me. I do not agree with far right faction of the party, but I can tell you that while they have sway, they do not rule the roost. Is the democratic party controlled by the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world because we have a black president ? I wish the president would tell us what he intends to do to solve our fiscal crisis, he might move a guy like me into his corner.. Instead, he offers nothing but borrowing, taxing and spending as his long term solution.

    8. Joseph Anderson August 21, 2012

      I agree 100%.

The Tea Party does not control the GOP, you moron. The Tea Party is NOT the GOP establishment of the Bush, Boehner, and McCain ilk. The Koch Brothers, Harlan Crow, North Carolina’s Art Pope– the whole crowd of inherited wealth talents — have bought control of the Dixiecrat/Republibigot operation for more years than even their harshest critics believe.
After all they bought their Citizens United decision last year which gives homegrown and overseas billionaires cart-blanche to buy any U.S. election.
Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Thomas are on record for participation in the totally political Committee for Billionaie’s Prosperity. Thomas relies upon Crow’s private jet fleet to dash around the country. Crow financed Mrs. Thomas’ conservative committee and she in turn arranged lucrative speaking engagements for her husband.
How do you spell “Conflict of Interest” in legalese?
The Koch Brothers and the rest of there inherited billions brethren share one trait.
None has ever served in combat with the U.S. military.
Back in their youth — that qualified the entire group as Draft Dodgers, along with Danny Quayle, DubYah Bush, Shotgun Cheney, Donnie Rumsfeld and a whole bunch of WARHAWK DixieCrat/Republibigots.

  4. mikey4912 August 18, 2012

I believe it..there is no other political reason for the pick of Ryan. Romney will do anything or say anything to be elected President. I feel that the bottom line strategy for him is to be noncommital on the issues. He will not say anything and then saturate the airways with lies in the last month or two, do he needs the money.
This is a planned strategy to buy the election and the Koch Bros, with the rest of their John Bircher cabal, have happily joined in.
We must join together and speak out, fight back, educate ourselfs and others to protect this Democracy of ours.

  5. dmikee August 18, 2012

Very scary if true. Can he provide any credible proof?

  6. artfulnotes August 18, 2012

Since the Kochs bought the republican party, it is not exactly news that they bought the Ryan nomination. Mitt is nothing if not For Sale, but then so is his declared political party.

  7. middleclasstaxpayer August 18, 2012

Listen to Stone’s words “I THINK”, Not “I Know”…he’s just supposing…..Get off the “bashing the wealthy” kick and stick to the facts….I never hear any liberals complaining about the Billionaire Geo Soros and all his “donations” to dems and all the private causes HE funds to push liberal ideas! Stop your whining!!

    1. CPANY August 18, 2012

The rich are a bunch of pricks who have an overblown sense of entitlement.

      1. middleclasstaxpayer August 19, 2012

Your VERY CRUDE comment actually applies to the 51% of American citizens who pay NO taxes, yet expect (or demand) ALL the benefits like free healthcare, unlimited unemployment, free collecge education, ability to default on mortgage committments, the list is endless….and many liberals think this is a good idea. Move to Greece and see what the outcome of these liberal policies result in, and stop Whining!

        1. CPANY August 20, 2012

My comment applies to all of the rich that I’ve encountered. They’re a demanding bunch of clowns who think that they are owed something by every other class. They frequently pay their bills late and have the gall to become angry when pressed to pay their overdue debts.

A good example is Caroline Kennedy, who became angry when she was not awarded a Congressional seat merely for the asking, despite the fact that she had no government experience. Her sense of entitlement was typical of her class.

The attitude of the rich is one of the reasons that revolutions happen. Ironically, in two of the most recent revolutions, the Russian and the French, the rich were caught completely off guard when the revolution started. They actually thought that the lower classes were going to tolerate forever the favoritism showed to the rich.

  9. William Deutschlander August 18, 2012

Do I think Stone is fabricating a story, most likely not!

When you weigh Citizens un United and the billiones of dollars the Billionaires are pumping into the REPUBLICAN SYNDICATE, along with the deliberate deceit of the REPUBLICAN CAARTEL (the attack on justice and liberty in the states REPUBLICANS took control over in 2010) the attack on voting rights in the states the CARTEL took control over in 2010, the fact that the CARTEL will not make clear what their agenda is if elected and a candidate who profoundly refuses to produce tax information that is the norm, at best one must ponder how this abuse of Democracy by the REPUBLICAN CARTEL will ultimately affect our Republic and Democracy going forward.

The years 2000 – 2008 and the GREAT RECESSION of 2008 brought about by the Bush Administrations failure to govern for all the people should leave every AMERICAN very concerned by the REPUBLICAN CARTELS power grab.

Thank you Obama Administration for rescuing the World and the U S A from the DISASTEROUS FAILURE of the REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION of 2000 – 2008.
Without any help from the REPUBLICAN CARTEL you have turned disaster into PROGRESS and I am certain your reelection will guarantee restoration of our ECONOMY and the well being of our entire population.

  10. PaulCindy August 18, 2012

Didn’t George Soros buy Obama’s nomination with all his Billions? Seems like Romney picked Ryan precisely because he wanted one of the best economic minds to compliment his own to actually fix our economy and tremendous debt that led to the 42 straight months of high unemployment, and didn’t pick Ryan just for political reasons.

    1. carsrus August 18, 2012

    Hannibal Koch

In 218 BC, a carthaginian general named Hannibal Barca formed an army which traveled across southern europe with a few dozen elephants, over the alps into Italy to attack the romans on their home ground. His motive was revenge for his father and the spanking the romans laid on the carthaginians in the 1st punic war. For 15 years Hannibal rampaged thoughout Italy crushing one roman army after another. He was never defeated until forced to leave Italy to defend Carthage itself. So great was the fear romans had of Hannibal that mothers would routinely intimidate wayward children by threatening them that “if they didn’t obey, Hannibal would come to get them”. This went on for many years after the war ended in 202 BC.

Now in 2012 a new boogey man has emerged. I forsee the day when mothers will discipline their children with “if you don’t go to bed right now, the Koch Brothers will come to our house and they’ll get you and you’ll be very very sorry.” Yes it could get that bad.

They pander to the fears of the ignorant, the religious righteousness of the church ( which, when it enters politics, is neither religious nor right ), look for the mysogenist to protect a “man’s world” from uppity women, and make them feel important by contributing their impotence to the financial enrichment of their party leaders / owners, making them feel like they are doing something good for the country as their jobs are shipped overseas, and they, in turn, have to apply for the government benefits that they have been crying about at the tweet of the Koch Brothers’ whistle.

We are not all that stupid, GOTP. We know you are trying to sell us a caseload of snake oil in the form of Romney / Ryan. When you point at us and laugh at how stupid you think we are, remember that there are three fingers pionting the other way.

In November, let them shrivel up their Boehner and stick it where the sun doon’t shine.

    Obama / Biden 2012.

    1. carsrus August 18, 2012

      not stipid, just morons!

  15. carsrus August 18, 2012

Bull Shit! soros, the evil puppet maister, bought Obama and the White House for POWER!

  16. desertdustoff August 18, 2012

Did the koch sisters buy the nit wit mitt and lyin’ ryan ticket? Of course they did….and the rich get richer and the middle class gets smaller and smaller…

  17. desertdustoff August 18, 2012

paulcindy and carsus…man, where are you guys from? The south…you sound like you are a product of southern schools. If you two know how to read…get caught up on the truth. If you think either nit wit mitt or lyin’ ryan care about you, or even care about this country, you are either delusional or IQ deficient!

  18. Onye Onyemaechi August 18, 2012

Well said!! America must certainly exercise vigilant, diligent and discernment through out this political war on Nov.6. We can not let them ruin our Freedom and Democracy – at – large!!

  19. desertdustoff August 18, 2012

Wow carsus…you are scarey…reading your posts help me understand why so many people on the lunatic fringe should not be able to purchase hand guns….whoa, dude!

  20. Jim Ellis August 18, 2012

Ahh, the infamous “un-named sources” … What Garbage!
Harry Reid has unnamed sources, Roger Stone has unamed sources. Conanson admits Stone is a loose cannon with an axe to grind, but STILL he puts this out there. No, no Joe isn’t saying this is true (he suggests it is probably false) – he’s just spreading the rumor in hopes that a little of the dirt sticks. It is a real shame what passes for journalism these days!

And, yes, I call out the same kind of bullshit when comes from the right!

    1. oldtack August 18, 2012

Right on – this type of “journalism” should be challenged and exposed regardless of the source – right or left.

    2. CPANY August 18, 2012

The yellow press is alive and well. I don’t know of any major newspaper that doesn’t bend its news reports to fit its agenda.

    3. jarheadgene August 21, 2012

You should see the link that show hundreds of clips in a row, in about 90 seconds, different days different reporters, different news shows, but all from FOX…and their story starts out “Some people say….” and “Some people are saying….” Great Journalism, don’t you think? NOT.

  21. Kenneth Heffley August 18, 2012

I have writen down all the products that the kochroach brothers manufacture and i am avoiding buying these product. If everyone, would do the same thing the kochs would start worring. I have heard that they under pay their employees and give them less benifits, that these employees would be better off going for un employment insurance. Hope fully we can put these idiots out of business and start making our own products. Maybe starting our own companies owned and operated by the employees. Their is no doubt they we have the people and the knowledge to do this. We don’t need a money, and power hungry idiots running our lives.

    1. sigrid28 August 18, 2012

Would you please post your list of Koch brothers products? Let’s boycott ’em.

    2. BDD1951 August 18, 2012

Amen!! For everyone’s information, Blue Bell ice cream gave $40,000 to John Behner’s super pac.

  22. joujou228 August 18, 2012

    Not surprised!

  23. LennyPincus August 18, 2012

Un-named source? Almost as bad as Romney’s named source for his tax returns.

  24. Len Emery August 18, 2012

We all forget the song “Can’t buy me love” but we also need to remember that money can also buy hate. Money is doing a lot of that these days.

  25. Mike Whitlaw August 18, 2012

Not being a Koch or Super PAC fan. I do not disagree with the angst of the submitted comments. Stone dismounted one political pony to ride another. Was the dismount by choice, attrition, or forced? Does he have an ax to grind? No one paying a smidgen of attention can be unaware of the massive money dump the Kings of Pollution are exercising this election. Holding the notion that there would not be a required quid pro quo, is naivety taken to an embarrassing level. The SCOTUS adjudicated legislation of Citizens United open this can of worms. Shame on them.

  26. Martin Carpenter August 18, 2012

I see right now that I am on the wrong comment page. All that each of you are bunch of stupid democrats or illegal Mexicans that wants the government to keep you up. We are tired of paying for you being lazy and living off of the government that is our tax money. All of you need to be given your public housing for you to pay taxes on and keep up. Your welfare needs to be done away with..GET YOU A JOB AND BE AN ASSET TO YOUR COMMUNITY.

    1. CPANY August 18, 2012

      You’re an idiot.

    2. bigspender7 August 18, 2012

      …a remarkably stupid comment.

    3. Peace Elk August 19, 2012

What about my tax money? Public housing? Illegal Mexicans?

      You are a misinformed bigot.

    4. jarheadgene August 21, 2012

Mr. Carpenter this really does fit you after all……

  27. howa4x August 18, 2012

Of course the Republicans what to buy it. they can only win with a purchase of an election, dirty tricks, lies, stunts, and the bible and of course Fox and Friends. They have become masters of getting the middle class to vote against their own interests by using niche issues to distract them from what is important. The Republicans have no moral compass so this is all easy for them to do. the Koch Bros are worth around 100 billion and they still want more. They have a sickness called greed, and republicans have gotten the middle to become greedy too and embrace social Darwinism instead of Christian values. To say we are a religious country is downright laughable. The Koch bros. represent the golden calf and want people to worship them.
This is what is so wrong about the republican party they are the party that supports the winners and have distain for the loosers. I may be wrong here but I think Jesus was for the opposite.

  28. CitizenWhy August 18, 2012

You don’t get it. To these people federal laws are violations of their rights and they must resist them. These are not nice people, and they certainluy have no use for democracy or fairness.

  29. Todd August 18, 2012

This seems a bit funny as the democrat party and Barack Obama are bought, paid for, and controlled by George Soros. Even if these lies about the Koch were true, at least the Koch brothers love America. George Soros hates America and has directed Obama to do the same. Soros is the puppetmaster and Obama the puppet. We have seen it overand over again

  30. Crazy2lolo August 18, 2012

DAMN!!!! It’s good to be WEALTHY….. You can BUT a PRESIDENT…..

  31. Mark Janes August 18, 2012

From a political point of view the choice of Ryan makes little better sense than McCain’s pick of Palin four years ago, except that Ryan is less of an unknown. If anything the more people learn about Ryan and the details of his economic plan the less they like him and it. His selection only makes sense if you accept that powerful people, such as the Koch brothers, like Ryan and want him on the ticket, and were willing to do what it took to make that happen. That’s what gives the allegations in this story the ring of truth. We may never know for certain, just as we may never see Romney’s back tax returns.

  32. Michael Mahan August 18, 2012

Democrats are dreaming, what a scenario. The cherry on the cake is a corruption and bribery charge on the Kock brothers.

  33. Joe Narusiewicz August 18, 2012

The 1% with a in the pocket Supreme Court with ‘Citizens United” buy candidates and elections with tons of advertisements representing corporate power and the shill Romney makes a pact with the devil for power…..He won’t show his taxes because he knows the truth isn’t his friend. People tell me ‘Your for Obama Joe! I hate that no prosecutions happened from the Wall Street fiasco and Obama has nothing to do with me liking him but I must go for the lesser of two evils and Romney/ Ryan are so out there for me I must stand up against them. The fanatics and shills for mammon will bust social security and all the gains of the working class and turn it over to the rich. Stand up and fight this darkness!

  34. Steve Pickrel August 18, 2012

Who believes this drivel? Without Wisconsin, Romney has exactly one out: Ohio. But Ohio is much closer to even than Wisconsin. By giving himself a boost in Wisconsin, he still has some chance of winning Ohio, but now has some chance to win the election if he loses Ohio. It’s about the only choice that makes any sense from an electoral college, game-theoretic point of view. The electoral situation is desperate for Romney, and he’s found a way to not put all his eggs in the Ohio basket. Whether or not the Koch brothers like Ryan for the job is completely irrelevant. The only states that are less than 60% probable for one of the parties are Ohio, Colorado, Iowa, Florida, New Hampshire, and Virginia. Only Florida, Iowa, and Virginia are currently leaning Romney, and he must win them all. Even with those, he needs another 16 electoral votes to win. Only Ohio, with 18, is enough. Colorad0 + New Hampshire is only 13. Now, if Wisconsin, which is about 64% probable for the Dems, can be won, he can theoretically withstand an Ohio loss. Wisconsin has 10 votes, so e.g. Wisconsin + Colorado (9) would put Romney over the top. Don’t expect to see many political commercials unless you live one of the above states, and perhaps Nevada. All other states are above 70% probable for one candidate or the other, and are unlikely to switch. (All probabilities are based on the latest Intrade political real-money betting markets).

    1. sigrid28 August 18, 2012

I’m so busy driveling I can hardly think about the numbers you set up. Now, let me get this straight: It’s all about Romney winning at all costs, because he thinks he would like to add the presidency to his trophy collection. Then what was wrong with Senator Portman, and a win in Ohio, a far more likely prospect than Obama losing in Wisconsin?

I’ll tell you what was wrong. The Koch brothers wanted Ryan on the ticket, not Portman. They want the winners on the Republican ticket to be beholden to them, in ways that they would not have been with another vice presidential choice. Why this is so is still a secret, but there must be some good reason. How the Koch brothers “like Ryan for the job” is anything but irrelevant, if influencing policy in the White House is their ultimate goal. If it isn’t, I’ll eat my hat.

  35. Gaz Matic August 18, 2012

Type your comment here. -Dominick Vila

  36. ChristoD August 18, 2012

Who cares. The pick assures Obama of victory in 2012 and we can flip the bird to the Koch brothers after the election. What we MUST do is assure that Obama wins so that the Supeme Court isn’t irretrievably handed over to the right for the next two decades via hard right replacements for retiring justices. Thanks you Koch brothers, even though you are complete ass—–, I like the way you waste your money.

  37. Rebecca Fine August 18, 2012

If the Founding Fathers and early Presidents were here, they would be calling for the arrest & prosecution of the Koch Brothers and the 5 Supreme Court Justices who upheld Citizens United, amongst others. They are trying to buy and corrupt the political system and steal elections. This is exactly what people fought against in the early days of America. Read Teddy Roosevelt’s speech on the duty of the government to restrain corporate power.

  38. onedonewong August 18, 2012

I wonder who paid barak to put Biteeme on the ticket? Stone said that the mentally handicapped wanted a person to hold up as their own and that caused Barak to pick him. Not to mention all the $$ coming in from Illinois to buy his Sen seat

  39. tranz2deep August 18, 2012

The problem is that the $100,000,000.00 was said to be sent to one of the groups covered by.. wait for it… *Citizens United*.

As such, even if Koch was taped sending and delivering the damned wire transfer, they cannot be forced to disclose it as such groups are exempt from revealing who donated what as long as the *Citizens United* ruling is allowed to stand.

  40. Tag 279 August 18, 2012

Yes the German Nazis identified themselves as socialist but it was a move by Goebbels to appear that they were for the people when they were not Socialism and Fascism are polar opposites on the political spectrum…

  41. Gregory Bolen August 18, 2012

Impeach Romney ! I may be a little premature but it sure looks like its coming. The jackass can’t keep his nose clean for four years.

    1. jarheadgene August 21, 2012

Oh yeah….If, and may GOD forbid it(the REAL GOD…not the mormom fake one). He has a very good chance to become the next SPIRO AGNEW and RICHARD NIXON rolled into one. And guess who that would make POTUS…..UGGH Paul Ryan…..YUCK!

  42. Vinod Aggarwal August 18, 2012

Its amazing. That is called politics. It was never expected from GOP. Republicans are owned by Koch Brothers. Republicans are elected by people for Koch Brothers(Not for the people). Republicans change the definition of Democratic Government.

  43. Joe Robinson August 18, 2012

so sad. You would think these Koch brothers would put the effort, time and money to help the poor and the sick in this country.

Instead they are trying to buy an election.

    1. jarheadgene August 21, 2012

OH KOCH BROS ! …..Hope you read this stuff sometimes. PLEASE read the bible you are in it….the rich guy who ran out of storeroom for his grain….and also the Pharoah of Egypt….here is your chance….Remember Pharoah kept “hardening” his heart to MOSES until he went too far and GOD was done with him…..then it states “GOD hardened Pharoah’s heart.” LOOK OUT BOYS……FEAR the LIVING GOD….your dreamt up Commies have got NOTHING on him.

  44. BK Lewis August 18, 2012

100 million reasons to lick his sack?

  45. Sherlocktoo August 18, 2012

Gee, that is only 25% of what the unions promised Obama. They need more billionaire help just to catch up. Desperate jourNOlist at it again. No news, no opinion, no journalism, just a rumor hit piece.

I heard a rumor too! Axlerod has applied for Sharpton’s job. Will happen next year.

  46. paulbobtom2012 August 19, 2012

Ok, I googled it, and I found basically nothing, other than 1-2 paragraph pieces “blowing up” the story . What a joke. If there was some real journalism done, do you think the story would be 1-2 paragraphs that only appear on 1-2 right wing blogs? Using your same logic, try googling this “Is Mitt Romney a Unicorn”? Go ahead. Try it. Unicorn vs. Socialist. Wow, tough choices, touch choices. Finish 6th grade before you post again.

  47. Jackmack August 19, 2012

what do you what from the Republicans they are a bunch of Losers

  48. Jim Dumas August 19, 2012

I don’t see why people are shocked about this. We know where the Tea Party gets it’s backing, and we know what they want for this country. I remember when Paroe (sp) ran against Clinton, and was going to use his own money. “Oh, he’s just trying to buy the White House” was the cry then. So what’s the difference now? IF the GOP can get Romney in, there will be no pulling this country out again.

  49. EGA19 August 19, 2012

I agree Dominick, the GOP is no longer represents anything of its past. It now reminds me more of a real radical party. This is all largely due to the ruling in the Citizens United Decision. Whatseven more scary is the way that this party has recently manipulated the Pennsylvanian Lower Court in its attempt to Voter Suppression. Republicans are

  50. Willard D Russell August 19, 2012

The whole GOP platform for America.
When a wealthy person bends over and drops their pants, start kissing.

  51. Alan Hutchinson August 19, 2012

As a former member of the Republican party and an elected Republican official, I am disgusted by the current Republican party. The party’s “base” is increasingly made up of bigots and small minded individuals willing to support the privilege of the super wealthy over the vast majority of citizens.

  52. Kenneth Morgan August 19, 2012

If true, the supreme court needs to see the outright corruption of CU once and for all, and reconsider overturn of their findings. I know, LOL. This s proof they are buying the election.

  53. daniel bostdorf August 19, 2012

Just a history lesson so that we won’t repeat it…
    78 years ago today—

In 1934, Germany approved the vesting of sole executive power in Adolf Hitler. This after he had consolidated support for him through the banks, the wealthy leaders of industry that would eventually rebuild the Nazis military and war infrastucture .. Hitler restored middle class prosperity, ended mass unemployment by implementing military job creation, huge spending on war machinery and combined this with “free-market practices” that the banks insisted they be able to enjoy. (Romney-Ryan budget mean anything?) Throw in a little propaganda from Goebbels, create an enemy of the state (Jews) (now its the Muslims or anyone with a turban ) and mass psychosis created the Nazis nightmare. To secure all this, suspend the civil rights of citizens, spy on them via gestapo and informants, (current Patriot Act mean anything to us today?)

American citizens need to wake up. And its not through the brown shirts/Teaparty I assure you.

  54. DesertSun59 August 19, 2012

The best laid plans. Because what’s really happening here is that the Koch brothers are actually purchasing a one-way ticket to Dominionism. I guarantee you they believe they can stop the Dominionists, but they can’t.

  55. highpckts August 19, 2012

    PROVE IT!!

  56. highpckts August 19, 2012

Sigrid – Romney wants this position soooo badly that he will do anything! He must justify his Father NOT getting picked years ago!! It’s pure ego!!

    1. sigrid28 August 19, 2012

I saw it this way, for awhile. What you are saying, I think, is that Romney’s sense of entitlement has blinded him to the realities of the election. It is true that his enormous riches in everything most Americans desire insulate him from most unpleasant consequences.

But how can such an ego contemplate the ignominy of winning this way–in service to the Koch brothers–or the ambition-crushing blow of defeat? No amount of wealth can shield him from these consequences, which he could so easily have avoided altogether.

When otherwise secure people do things that are against their own self-interest in this way, on such a huge scale, in front of God and everybody, I think there must be some other motivation: to protect his family, perhaps, from a shame worse than his losing the election; to make sure failings (if any) of the Mormon church never reach the light of day; to demolish an enemy he hates with every fiber of his being; blackmail; a wealth addict’s disregard for any needs but his own; severe dismorphia with respect to the dimensions of his own prosperity, whereby he cannot recognize his success but sees only his fear of poverty and insecurity–I leave the rest to Shakespeare and Hollywood. What can it be that makes him put his very good life at risk?

      1. BDD1951 August 19, 2012

Wouldn’t it be something if all delegates turned against Romney and voted in Ron Paul. It’ll never happen, but it would be fun.

  57. highpckts August 19, 2012

Is that it?? You just spout rhetoric that has been done to death so you can justify why you are so blind and stupid??

  58. Keith Ratner August 19, 2012

Call me old fashioned, but I find it hard to take someone seriously when they can’t spell their headline correctly (talking about Roger Stone here).

  59. John Balzer August 19, 2012

Daniel, I was buying your illusionary tale until the end where the Tea Party are the Brown Shirts. Let’s chill on the Nazi metaphors and see if we can all agree on a few points. Our country is in fiscal crisis. There is a 50-50 like and dislike for the Obama plan vs. the Ryan

plan. Back on this article’s topic; Gary Johnson has a plan to cut U.S. spending a clean 43% across the board. As governor of New Mexico, he created more jobs than any other state (by percentage) and always balanced the budget. These kinds of common sense ideas should be spoken on the national debate stage with the big two,

  60. highpckts August 19, 2012

One can only laugh at your outright state of denial and as far as horse manure, better take your blinders off before you step in some!

  61. highpckts August 19, 2012

I am amazed at the depth of your denial and, by the way, better take off those blinders before you step in your own manure!!

  62. highpckts August 19, 2012

PaulCindy -It seems to me by all statistics that unemployment was at 11% during Bushes last months in office! It is now down to 8%! You can’t fix in one term what took Bush 8 years to do!

  63. Robert P. Robertson August 19, 2012

When considering the source of this information about the multi-million dollar buy-off, we should also consider that the tooth of a dead snake is just as poisonous as a snake bite. We should also consider that a tree is known by its fruit, and that the devil is known by his deeds. Roger Stone is and will always be a GOP hatchetman, a spurious deceptor who would do anything for money. Even considering that Ryan is a Tea Bagger darling, we must also consider that the Republicans and the Tea Baggers are joined at the hip when it comes to Obama/Biden. Also, the Koch brothers stand to make trillions if a Romney/Ryan campaign is successful in the profiteering from the Iran/Isreali conflict that will explode after November, so it makes sense that they will gamble 100 million in an investment on the economic destruction of America when Romney/Ryan continue the Bush/Cheney disaster on the American economy. For deception to work, it has to employ some elements of truth, otherwise it would fall on its face. So, we should tread slow with this information and expose it to the light of solid evidence before we call a pig a pig, even if it stinks to high heaven.

  64. highpckts August 19, 2012

Sigride – Because they see Ryan as the possible power behind the throne!!

  65. highpckts August 19, 2012

Martin – Well aren’t we the “all American” that lives for God and Country and screw the other guy! Huh? You got yours so to the hell with everyone else?? You are truly a peice of work!

  66. highpckts August 19, 2012

Middleclasstaxpayer – Hey if you don’t like this sight, go to another that agrees with all your drivel!!

  67. highpckts August 19, 2012

Middleclasstaxpayer – That’s funny! I don’t know anyone like that and I am solidly middle class! So your saying that all people that are suffering in poverty are just lazy, useless humans!! Well good for you! You are now a FIRST CLASS BIGOT! I do not support free healthcare, free education, defaulting on mortgages etc. but I do understand that during the last administration all of this was made possible by the deregulation of financing, big corp. using all this as an excuse to lay off thousands of people for their bottom line, mailing out millions of dollars in “bribery” checks to the public so the Republicans could show how generouse they are, and the list goes on!!

  68. clarenceswinney August 19, 2012

When EVERY political commodity that can be bought HAS been bought, there will be ONE remaining instrument for the mobilization of the masses: HATE.

  70. Jason86 August 19, 2012

This whole article smacks of irony. Who are you going to believe?… Clinton acolyte / apologist Joe Conason? Sorry Joe, your heroes the Clintons lied and cheated. Your book on the Clintons is an utterly biased joke. Yes, some pro-big government Bush-Republicans are not fans of Stone. Stone was a Goldwater-Reagan Republican and once the GOP wandered from Goldwater and Reagan to embrace big government Stone defected.
Roger Stone took down Eliot Spitzer by exposing his use of hookers; took down the reform party after Ross Perot had spoiled the GOP’s chances in ’92 and ’96 presidential races; and, he stole the 2000 presidential election from Al Gore. If Roger Stone says the Koch’s bought Ryan’s nomination I believe him. The people who really dislike Stone are the people he has vanquished: Hillary, Gore, Spitzer, nutty Ross Perot! Thank God for truth tellers like Roger Stone!

  71. Jason86 August 19, 2012

Roger Stone is a liberty minded dragon slayer of the highest regard. It comes as no surprise that a Clinton apologist would call him “dangerous and erratic”. I am just saying : “consider the source folks!”

  72. rmarqua2921 August 19, 2012

What is it with Wisconsin? Do the Koch brothers live there? First, they buy Walker, and now they buy Ryan?

  73. Lisa Kelley August 19, 2012

Any actual facts to accompany the story?

  74. widollar August 20, 2012

Votes have always been for sale, and Romney and Ryan plan to buy as many as they can with the help of their billionaire pals. If these two misfits do buy the oval office, the middle class with suffer a giant train wreck. Only with the women, Independents and the Blacks and Latino’s voting in record numbers can they be stopped! Lets hope they fail to buy the oval office!

  75. montanabill August 20, 2012

Just a note before you folks get all excited and apoplectic, this is Joe Conason writing this.
Joe Conason! Get your facts from someone who doesn’t live in fantasy land.

  76. Brian August 20, 2012

Stone seeks relevancy so he goes down the Harry Reid road and makes up something outlandish. He’s like a little kid yelling look at me, look at me…Please pay me some attention

  77. middleclasstaxpayer August 20, 2012

Since you bring up favoritism, look at how the media portrays liberals….Joe Biden doesn’t know what State he’s campaigning in, doesn’t realize he’s now in the 21st century, uses race-dividing, incendary remarks, etc but not much comment from CNN & ABC/NBC…..had this been the “other” party’s man (or woman), they would have been crucified in the press. Americans ARE fed up, but with officials from the president on down, who have NO private-sector work experience, yet believe they alone know how to create jobs and turn our economy around. Remember that it was liberal policies that encouraged (NO, DEMANDED) banks to lend to unqualified low income borrowers that had NO downpayments, thus precipitating the housing bubble, and causing an historically unprecedented failure of the population to renege on their legal mortgage obligations. We all gave someone new a fair chance, but after almost four years, we have NO results. If we keep “doing what we’re doing, we will keep getting what we are getting.”

    1. JanNH August 20, 2012

The media and Fox didn’t play up Romney introducing Ryan as next President and walking off the stage, leaving Ryan to awkwardly start speaking.
      Let’s get beyond the bs:

Ryan inherited four years of balanced budgets from Clinton.

Obama inherited a Depression from the last conservative Republican team of businessmen,Bush and Cheney.

So, the author knows that Stone is erratic, but posts references to Stone’s claims as if they were fact.

    Bad journalism.

    1. Don Mac August 27, 2012

he reported that he made the claim, it is a fact he made the claim

      1. Rex Remes August 29, 2012

Yes, it is a fact that Stone made the claim. And it is a fact that Stone is erratic. So, referring to Stone’s claims as if the claims are fact is bad journalism.

A bit like me talking about how Peter says Obama sells crack to school kids. And we all know that selling crack to school kids is a bad thing. But Obama keeps doing it and making about 300,000 dollars a month. Oh … by the way Peter is my unstable uncle.

If I were to do this (and I wanted to be considered a reputable journalist), it would be bad journalism. It also might be considered wasting the reader’s time. This kind of thing should be saved for tabloids.

  80. lyris August 26, 2012

Gee am I so not surprised.

  81. sunmusing August 27, 2012

We already knew that…It is the koch’s purchase of some of the state legislatures who are the real problem.

  82. Tom Key August 27, 2012

Romney can’t help himself. He sold the VP slot to the highest bidder.

  83. mbresh1 August 29, 2012

How else could the GOP raise the kind of funds without the promises of taking up their cause being a candidate for VP or votes in congress should they be elected. This is only the start of government by the rich and for the rich. We should also continue to press for the tax returns for Mitt Romney. How does a person have that much money in an IRA? A new law should be passed in congress making it mandatory for at least 5 years of returns to come out before a candidate can run for office.

  84. jose garza August 30, 2012

  85. Stephen Higginbottom August 30, 2012

Typical liberal tactics. Take an uncorroborated statement from a known mental loon and publish it as fact. Then all the liberal loons rad it and repeat it as fact.
Funny how the liberals do not have a problem with George Soros, W. Buffet, ABC, CBS , and NBC buying the election for Obama.
You can always tell what the Liberlas are doing by listening to what they are condemning the GOP of doing.

  86. LukeJohn August 30, 2012

So Soros bought the last election for Obama – what else is new?

  87. NotIntoTeaParties August 30, 2012

Romney ran Bain Capital. Check out what it is they do, and what he did. Like this guy is going to fight for the “little guy”? Good God, is America really that stupid? Wait, don’t answer that. And Paul Ryan? My God, the guy practically screams ‘I hate old people and just wish they and all of their medical issues would all die and go away’, but has the gall to say Obama wants to de-fund Medicare? Are people that stupid? Wait, don’t answer that. These same people voted for Bush twice, but think that it’s all Obama’s fault. Of course they’re that stupid. God help us all. And when will democrats start calling republicans what they really are??? – Satanists. Satanism is all about exaltation of the ‘self’ and doing things for your own good with no concern for how it impacts others. A sociopathic way of thinking and being. So all these religious wackos who think the rapture is coming may be right…..they just don’t realize that THEY are the ones that are helping make it happen by helping put agents of Satan in power. Sounds dramatic I realize. But they don’t even read their own Bible. Who crucified Christ? The establishment. The Church. Carried out by ‘the state’, the Roman Empire. Newsflash to right-wing religious wackos – God doesn’t care that you think you were doing the right thing. He cares that you hurt others by believing in false prophets and working AGAINST His cause. Ah, the irony. You may be bringing about the end of the great America we once knew and perhaps even bringing about the end of the world….but at least it’s a comfort to know that those who serve Satan – ie, all republicans – will rot in hell where they belong.

WWIII even the rich won will not survive, no need for social security, medicare, medicaid or LIFE!

Ask Obama which foreign countries, like saudi arabia are funding his re-election bid, through the building of mosques in the US. Being financed from with in is not a criminal offence.

I had to have a good laugh when I read this article. It seems the Demagogue er sorry Democrat Party is allready setting up its excuse for why its going to lose the Presidency, not the fact that Hussein Obama is an Incompitent Marxist Stooge of Soviet Master Spy George Soros, but that the Koch bros bought the election ! I am suprised the writer of this journalist travesty did not try & blame the Jews for Obamas failings & the $16 Trillion debt !

How about a few facts to test your non-fact based opinions? Which party passed the Community Reinvestment Act that was used to force banks to approve loans to people who didn’t show an ability to repay a loan? Answer? The Democrat Party during the Carter Administration and enforced during the Clinton Administration by Attorney General Janet Reno who threatened action against the lending institutions if they didn’t make innumerable loans to borrowers who, as predicted, defaulted on them. It takes a few years for the loans, many of which were zero interest rate for the first several years, to fall apart. Which party went to the House of Representatives in 2007 and 2008 (after the Democrat Party controlled both legislative bodies) to try to stop the various illicit activity; warning of the consequences but were rebuffed by Barney Frank and the rest of the liberals. Answer, they were warned by George W. Bush, a Republican. Which party installed the Democrat CEOs in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac who were making millions of dollars in salaries and bonuses while the agencies they were in charge of collapsed (remember Jeneane Garafalo)? The Democrats. The usual procedure is for the banks, whose loans are insured by a quasi-Federal Agency like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc., to sell the loans to one of those agencies who were bailed out by the taxpayers through legislation the current Democrat party in power in 2008/9 passed because the agencies were bankrupt due to a lack of oversight (Congresswoman Walters, CA is on YouTube arguing with the Republican Congressmen that the agencies are in great condition and the heads of those agencies were doing remarkably good jobs). It’s not evil for the banks to sell the loans they made but a means of reducing risk over the 30 year mortgage period and so they can make new loans with the money made in selling the mortgages. Meanwhile the investments which were made up by those failing mortgages were sold to individuals and pension plans as well as foreign investors and lost their value since the interest and principle not being paid comprised the investment with the properties being the underlying collateral. These properties are the ones which foreclosed and are foreclosing. The Democrats have continued to worsen the future situation with the ridiculous Dodd-Frank legislation (written by those two Democrats and passed only by Democrats) which, accomplishes nothing to prevent the foretold catastrophe from happening again (if you are interested in facts on which to base your opinions, you will do your research on Dodd=Frank). Why did these people allow and cause this to happen? It’s because they are power hungry and want to put in place controls of the money supply for themselves and the members of their political party who will come after them. No longer do public servants serve the public selflessly. Now they have other goals: line their pockets and accrue to themselves power.

So that’s how it works! I knew the Repubscum was trying to buy the election, but what’s new?

  97. pogomcl September 14, 2012

you know what’s scary about this page? the comments are from sober-minded, conscientious people who are well-educated and know history, not from some freaking, screaming ranting morons who shout bulleted powerpoint explicatives.

and that’s what scary. You get so used to opening a newspaper article and hearing all the moronic rants, that you are stunned senseless when somebody responds in logical, well-thought out manner and adds depth to an issue with deeper references or insight.

that’s downright scary–that the US is so mucked up that blowhards and flamethrowers are the norm.

  98. CommonMan59 September 15, 2012

It just goes to show that liberals will believe any lie about Republicans and refuse to believe the truth about their beloved Obamasiah. It is scary how many people choose ignorance.

When you get the chance compare party platforms from the 1920 Nazi party with those of the current democrat platforms and you will find that they are nearly identical. For the less educated the Nazi party was the national socialist workers party that helped cause world war II.

  99. troycekey September 23, 2012

This is news? Tell us something we don’t already know.

  100. Michael Rieser September 28, 2012

That may be the best reason I’ve heard yet to nominate Ryan.

It never made any sence, why nominate am ultra-righter for the VP candidate? To avoid alienating that part of the Republican party? What did the GOP think the far right was going to do, vote for Obama? A Republican with moderate views more in tune with the country and along the philosphical lines of successful Republicans like, oh I don’t know maybe Ronald Regan, would have been a smart nomination. Ryan, not so much.

If the Koch brothers story is real then it looks like the GOP will get about what they deserve. The traditional republican values are legitamate and should have a party that supports them, now clean house and weed out the nut jobs and Ayatollahs.

    1. Junior Samples October 9, 2012

      Romney/Ryan 2013-2021, then Ryan/Palin 2021-2029 then Palin/Cantor 2030-2038…

The Kochs should be sent to Alaska to work until they die of cold and hunger and then buried in an unmarked grave

  102. William J. Hamilton October 3, 2012

I doubt this is true in the sense that I don’t think they called Romney and made a dollars for candidate deal, however I’m confident that pleasing the right wing money drives the entire Romney Campaign and will control his administration if he is elected.

  103. keylawk October 9, 2012

We know that the VP vetting process indulged by Romney looked much more like “negotiations” for more money.

  104. Junior Samples October 9, 2012

You people are so stuck on this Koch brothers conspiracy crap that you can’t see the Soros underfoot. Take the beam out of your own eye before you worry about the mote in Romney’s eye, if there even is something in his eye.

The “Brooks Brothers Riot” was manifest outrage supported by the mostly Cuban-American community in Miami when they were told by the press that yet another recount, after the first and only statutorily required recount, was going to be made.

Kendall Coffee, former US Attorney, argued the Gore campaign’s case to the Canvassing Board to do another recount, even after he had been betrayed by Clinton’s AG, Janet Reno, in the Little Havana house where Little Elian was receiving sanctuary with his American relatives from extradition to Communist Castro’s Cuba. Many believe that the return of Lil’ Elian to Castro sealed the Democrat defeat in the Florida election, including me.
